We are figuring out that more and more people own a PS3, but the lack of compatible projects (only 2 available, "PS3GRID and Yoyo@home) is limiting the installation of the BOINC Paltform on them. I would be interesting that you develop an application for Linux PowerPC and so could take advantage of an enormous computing power that will be raising with time to reach, we hope, the PetaFlops. That was possible for Folding@home so why not for BOINC. |

I have a ps3 and wouldn't mind doing this project. I have done 1 f@h and don't like it too much. I'm going to try PS3GRID next. |

That was possible for Folding@home so why not for BOINC. It is possible but for many projects (perhaps including Milkyway) there is no incentive to port their application to PS3. There is no incentive because their application will not run any faster on PS3 than it does on a PC. PS3 is designed to do the kinds of calculations required for graphics and rendering 3D worlds at amazing speed. Folding and YoYo science application also use the type(s) of calculations PS3 can do very fast. As for the kinds of calculations required by your average BOINC project, PS3 performs those calculations no faster than your average PC so those projects have no incentive to port to PS3. |

Einstein PU apps seems to use PS3, but don't know if it works |

That was possible for Folding@home so why not for BOINC. this isn't necessarily true. the cell processor can be really fast -- if you have the expertise to program it correctly. the vector math on the PPEs is very very fast. unfortunately i don't think we have the time or the resources to properly code milkyway to run on one at the moment (nor a ps3 to test it with :P ). |
