Hi,

I can't find an answer to my question, so I will just ask it instead.

Is there a difference in the kind of work, that the CPU get and what the GPU get? I seem to remember, that Folding@home sent 'special' WU to the GPU, because they where limited in what work they could do. It all worked towards the same goal, but different CPU/GPU are better suited for some work than other.

Is it the same with MW - are the WU different?

Yup. Same. That's why the granted credit is the same for CPU work and GPU work.

Okay, thank you.

The reason I asked, is my plan to turn off CPU tasks for MW and only make it do GPU tasks. That way, my CPU can do some other projects, that can't be run on the GPU.

Better use of my hardware. :-)

Hmm, what should I cange to make it do this?
I have looked though the settings, but can't find the right option. Under MilkyWay@home preferences, the option "Use CPU" is set to No (it has been this way for a long time) - but I still get CPU tasks. What other options should be changed be changed?

Hi,
this has been seen on different projects as well.
Try seperate setting for work/home, in most cases that helped.

Hold on now. After reading through a bunch of GPU threads per someone's suggestion, it does seem the workload is different. N-body is CPU only while other work can be done by both the GPU and CPU but it seems they have the GPU's do it so that because they are way faster at it.

My understanding is the N_body simulation(wonder what the N stands for) is calculating the model for the trail of the Sagitarius stream?

Anyways I'm plowing through old threads here ;)
