Hi: It is a nice card 6970 : http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/AMD_Series/EAH69702DI2S2GD5/ But the average temp in full load is 85c or 185F plus, and that's even after downgrading the volt to 1.13, engine to 850 and memory to 5300. Is this normal? Any suggestions? I am using latest driver 11.3. My previous msi 5770 twin frozer was less than 50c on full load for days!! Note: the 6970 is doing 1:20 per unit, is this good for milkyway? My reg: AMD 1090 3.6 8 G ram MSI 890 FXA UD7 mobo 500 * 2 Seagate hard drive raid 0 850 PSU Thermaltake Thanks a lot |

Try running the fan at a higher speed. I have mine set at 50% so it's a good balance between cool and the sound of a vacuumcleaner. |

Looking at the WUs going through at present, it looks fine baring in mind you are not overclocking. Re temperature, it is on the high side for the card, fully stressed 75-80 would be expected if there is very good air flow in the case. However 85 will not harm the card, although I wouldnt let it go above 90. Temperatures in the range 80-85 is normal for current generation cards, especially fully stressed. I would say its going fine, might be an idea to look at the case airflow (cable tidy put to one side, dust bunnies, etc etc)to see if you can get it down a few degrees - 80-82 kind of thing - but dont loose sleep doing it, only nice to have, more important to watch for temps above 90, then you really must do something. Battling with "all guns blazing" to force temperatures below 80 would be a waste of effort, the card is built to operate in the 80's if needed. Guru3d did a nice review on the card if you havent seen it: http://www.guru3d.com/article/asus-radeon-6970-directcu-ii-review/20 Regards Zy |

Looking at the WUs going through at present, it looks fine baring in mind you are not overclocking. EAH 6970 is factory overclocked, I downgraded it . The case air flow is very good, I might add another side fan. The card in guru3d is two fans, mine is not direct CU, it is only one fan as shown in newgg link. |

You can lower the memory clock to as low as it will go as it doesn't make any difference to the performance and that tends to produce a lot of heat. On my 2x5850's I run them at a small OC of 775 and the memory downclocked to 300, that and a higher set manual fan speed leave them running under 60C most of the time with an ambient room temp b/w 22~25C. |

Still too hot for me. I should've waited for the MSI twinfrozer or ASUS direct CU or Gigabyte with triple fans. |
