Can we get more then 20 workunits at a time. How about 250 or more. It may help keep peoples computer(s) busy when the server goes out. It can always be readjusted later.

Yes, would be a good workaround for the current situation! ;-)

Alternatives:

1) Make the work units bigger, like they used to be.

2) Don't let Dave out of the lab. Push food under the door if he gets hungry(pizza is nice and thin).

3) Every time the server fails, each member of the IT department has to eat a MilkyWay bar. For those that are unfamilar with this 'treat', it's like a mix of clay and window putty, fluffed up to make make it half the weight it should be, and all covered in sickly sweet chocolate. That should focus their minds.

Well when we upgrade there will be a workunits per core instead of per host limit. I think Travis may have implemented a code change for this on the current version already? Perhaps not, but soon this will be implemented. :)

Well here's at least what i do from now on... since i have vmware on my V8(dual quad core xeons 5365 @3 GHz) i've started one linux and one freebsd VM... set the windows boinc to use only 4 cores and leave the rest ( 4 cores ) to the VMs...

so instead of only getting 20 wus per host now... i'm getting 60 now...
Will probably start another linux VM later today :D

Woohoo ! tricked the system ! ... LOOOOOL :P

EDIT I

added another VM :)

VM1 Linux 64 bit 2 Cores, average WU time: 248 sec.
VM2 Linux 32 bit 1 Core, average WU time: 380 sec.
VM3 FreeBSD 32 bit 1 Core, average WU time: 215 sec.

EDIT II
interesting is that the FreeBSD (native app no emulation) runs fastest compared to all OS i've seen right now...

There you go, they are making progress.

I think we just need to be a bit more accomidating and give these folks a chance.

From other boards folks know I'm not the most accomidating person :)

Let's give them a chance to succeed :)
