The easiest way is to go to a site like this one:
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/?C=M;O=D and download the version you want. That site ALWAYS has the latest version, just be warned that some are not nearly as good as others! On each projects main webpage is a download link that will come up with the RELEASE version, all newer ones are alpha and beta versions. This page http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=6698 has the download links too, BUT also has the changelogs, showing the changes from version to version.

As long as you are upgrading Boinc from one version to the next just download the newer version and run it, it is not even required that you stop the current version, but most people do anyway. Downgrading to an older version is a slightly more complicated process and NOT recommended, as all the current workunits you have now will be lost. I personally have multiple pc's and am using version 7.0.52 with no problems, BUT most of my pc's are Boinc only machines, so other things that could affect Boinc aren't seen by me.

Also there is NO need to upgrade every time a newer version comes out, there IS a minimum version that is required but it is a much older one, version 6.?.?. Once you find one that works for you just keep an eye out for features you might like and then you can consider upgrading. Essentially the same holds true for your gpu drivers too. Unless you also game, and need the newer versions, and the older version is working for you there is no need to upgrade just for Boinc.

Good luck, if you have any more questions please feel free to ask! NO poking me though!!

Cheers for that mate. I'll have a look for features in newer versions I want.

I do have one more question. I created the app_config.xml file I saw in a different thread, but i'm still not getting two wu's to run on my gpu. Gpu usage is at about 58%, temp at 45. I'm currently finishing off all wu's then ill restart my pc and see what happens.

*EDIT* nevermind, updating boinc fixed this. now using 99% of gpu with 2 wu's running.
