Can I run two different generations of ATI GPU in one computer if they are not in Crossfire? I upgraded not long ago, and now my 6950 is just laying around. If I can put it back in my case and run it on MW along with the 7950 that would be ideal. Thanks for any help. |

You most likely will need to create a cc_config.xml file with this in it. <cc_config> <log_flags> </log_flags> <options> <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus> </options> </cc_config> There are other options that can be used in the files as well. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration |

Thanks, Arkayn. This is my first foray into a non-standard setup. I'll post my results here afterward. |

Thanks, Arkayn. This is my first foray into a non-standard setup. I'll post my results here afterward. The key will be to make sure you get a big enough power supply! A teeny tiny one will never do it, I always go bigger then needed so put 850 watt ones in when I can find them on sale. If it is a Boinc only machine then you can even unplug the cd/dvd player saving some watts if needed. I have never used a 7970 with another gpu though, YES it should work just fine though. Another thing is to leave at least one cpu core free for each gpu too. |

Well, I finally got this rig rebuilt and the old 6950 put back in with the 7950. After a few minutes of figuring out how to edit the cc_config I seem to have everything working. Mikey, I replaced the 850W Silverstone PSU I had in my case with a new 750W Corsair. The Corsair is fully modular, which helps my airflow considerably. The Silverstone was not modular at all and so I was left with a slew of unused cables taking up space in my case. Power consumption right now with the two GPUs running along with the two remaining CPU cores crunching WCG is still well below 750W. My power monitor is reading around 550W and that's including the 5-year-old 46" LCD TV I'm using as a monitor at the moment. I should have plenty of headroom, I think. Thanks for the help! |

That's REALLY good, I am VERY glad you got it working AND that a 750 watt psu is working!! That means I could spend less money next time, and not get an 850 watt psu for my higher level gpu machines!! THANKS!!! |

Yeah, 750W seems to be all you need for most setups I would imagine. My other rig has a 750W powering two GTX680s. It could probably power a third 680 but I think that would be getting awful close to its limit. I originally built the Nvidia rig with a 1000W PSU but soon realized it was really overkill for what I needed. |

This powers my 670 and 660 machine. With plenty of room for a newer card if I ever get the cash. |
