Hello, I have the latest client, latest drivers, and windows 7.
My settings in the boinc client are to "run based upon preferences"

When I come back to my computer, I see that setiathome is consuming 0% CPU resources. BUT, wilkyway_separation__modified_fit_1.28_windows_x86_64__opencl_nvidia.exe is consuming 15% CPU. My system actually slows down when milkyway is running. Even though its consuming only 15% of the CPU, its like its consuming 99% of the GPU. Typing and highlighting text is sluggish. When I kill the process, my system comes back to being its normal responsive self.

So, my question is this:
Why is milkyway not suspending when coming out of screensaver mode like setiathome does.

AMD 955 x4 3.2ghz
Nvidia GTS 450
12gb ram

Thanks very much in advance

Check your computing preferences:
Is "Suspend GPU work while computer is in use?" set to "Yes"?

I thought of that first as well. All my settings are to stop processing when the computer is in use, verified that both in the "Tools/Computing Preferences" and the online version of the preferences.

That's what's confusing to me. All the preferences I have setup say don't use GPU when in use, but the milkyway continues to run.

hollett -

I have experienced a situation similar to what you are describing. However, I am running Windows XP 32 bit so this may not help much.

There is a program called "Process Explorer" available at www.sysinternals.com that shows in a much better detail what resources are being used by your system.

I found that certain Milkyway GPU models (I don't know which) cause my computer to spend a huge amount of time (25% or more on a quad processor) processing interrupts. This should be something like 0.1%.

I never cured the problem but at least I know what it is and just don't run Milkyway GPU models on that computer
