Message 61093 - Posted: 12 Feb 2014, 17:50:40 UTC

I have started a bunch of identical narrow range n-body runs. They are:

de_nbody_02_12_sim_orphan_narrow
de_nbody_02_12_sim_orphan_narrow_2
de_nbody_02_12_sim_orphan_narrow_3
de_nbody_02_12_sim_orphan_narrow_4

ps_nbody_02_12_sim_orphan_narrow
ps_nbody_02_12_sim_orphan_narrow_2
ps_nbody_02_12_sim_orphan_narrow_3
ps_nbody_02_12_sim_orphan_narrow_4

We are getting really close to a major scientific result! Thank you, and keep crunching!

Jake

Talk about a teaser! ;) you can't say anything more?

Warum verdrängen diese Aufgaben alle anderen Arbeiten (von 4 Aufgaben wird nur die eine von Milkyway bearbeitet)?

Supposed to talk English here.

There is a Czech MW forum IIRC.

This actually is german.
He said: "Why do these workunits supress all others? (From 4 workunits only the milky way workunit will be done.)"

Because n-body work units are multi-threaded. They will use all available cores to run each work unit.

Ok but I didn't actually say I thought it was Czech, although I did imply it, I was just guessing it might be ;).

I still don't understand his question though, running MW doesn't stop me from getting Asteroids@H WUs.

That's because you are not crunching n-body WUs. They will take all cores to process one task.

Oh their CPU WUs only?

Didn't know MW did true multi threading.
