This might be a silly question, but in reviewing the Server Status page, I see the terms TASKS and WORKUNITS listed. What it the correlation or ratio between the 2? TIA |

A Workunit is a combination of a program (executable) and a particular set of data. When a single Workunit is sent to one or many user's, these are called Tasks. So, each Workunit can consist of many tasks. Depending of the Project (Milkyway, etc.), when all of the completed tasks are returned, the Project might analyze all of the task results to determine what the "answer" is for the Workunit. |

A Workunit is a combination of a program (executable) and a particular set of data. so, there is no set number such as 1000 WUs per Task? |

You have it backwards. A task is a child of a Workunit. A Workunit can have many tasks but a task is only a member of (belongs to) one workunit. Say I have a dataset I want to have analyzed. This a workunit. So I send the exact same dataset to 10 users (these are tasks). Different projects create different number of tasks for each workunit. Climate Prediction only creates one task for each workunit. Other projects create a different number of tasks for each workunit. I don't think I have ever seen more than 20. Hope this helps. |
