Hello world, I know it´s off topic, but because this is the most read thread, I post here: Did anybody but me recognize that Microsoft installed the former optional "Diagnostic and Telemetry service" on ALL Windows 7-machines with the latest "Quality"-Rollup? Greetings NN |

It is the "Diagnostic Tracking Service" in your services-folder; I don´t know the exact English word for it. NN |

Ich sehe gerade, dass Sie wohl deutschsprachig sind. Klicken Sie auf "Start", geben Sie unten "Dienste" ein und betätigen Sie die Eingabetaste ;) NN |

Hello world, As I said on one of the other projects you posted this on...this is NOT new!! This was done months ago by MS and is on ALL of their Windows platforms now!! MS does NOT sell individual peoples data they sell things like 5,000 people went to MilkyWay today so MW can then move up or down on the search sites. |

My answer in the Collatz-Forum: I don´t want to be tracked because I don´t want to be tracked. I allways found what I was searching for. I´m not interested in helping a shop selling goods I don´t need. I recommend the Microsoft shareholders to look for a job, if they need more money. Keep your fingers of my life! BTW Microsofts description of the "Diagnostic Tracking Service" is: "The Diagnostics Tracking Service enables data collection about functional issues in Windows components." This has nothing to do with search site optimization. And - as long as I have no possibility to control what is sent to MS I will never ask anybody before starting a discussion about it! NN |

I tried it twice. Was unable (also with help from a forum) to install AMD openCL. It worked easy with nVidia. I followed a three month discussion @ Einstein. I never had a crunching AMD Linux version. No, thanks. Alexander |

My answer in the Collatz-Forum: I PAID for two spywarefree Windows 7-Licences with MY HARD EARNED MONEY! Why should I kick them? NN |

Your definition and MS' definition of "spywarefree" aren't the same. I too understand your frustration and violation of principals but I've chalked it up to it's not worth the effort besides.... I have some linux machines and VMs but I still use a windows machine for my daily/typical use. It's my own habits and comfort that keep me subscribed to the MS machine. I don't buy anything but Windows licenses from MS, and when I do I find the best deal. |

My answer in the Collatz-Forum: You KNOW the answer to that!!! By STILL using Windows you have implicitly agreed to abide by their ever changing rules and procedures!! I guess you could always go back and reinstall from your Win7 cd and then refuse any and all updates, but that would leave you wide open to any virus or other bad thing produced since that date, and don't forget all the windows 'bugs' that have been fixed since you first installed. |

That is the point. I also enjoyed working with Windows for 17(?) years and would like to do so furthermore. But do I therefore want to give up my privacy? I don´t know if I should! NN |

Windows 7 will be the last Windows OS I use on my PCs. I still enjoy using it for the time being though and don't have any problems with it beyond Microsoft's occasional incompetence. I've gotten used to Debian/KDE (Linux) on my other computers and in VMs. I'd have already moved over if it weren't for legacy support and Windows 7 working so well for me. I leave my main Windows 7 computer up and running for months at a time sometimes and do things like gaming on it, crunching for BOINC, web surfing, media consumption, server hosting, and some production related things. My laptop is Debian/KDE only now though. I also game on it with some of my Steam hosted games and Minecraft on occasion. I also enjoy the greater customization and much richer and more capable software packages available to me on this Linux platform, so it isn't surprising that beyond legacy software needs, Windows doesn't have much to offer me that I'm interested in. In my professional and personal experience, the vast majority of people aren't competent enough to manage and administer their computer systems effectively, regardless of the OS they're using, and they eventually make and let their PCs degrade in security, reliability, and performance to the point where they just end up buying a new system every few years. Microsoft privacy policies are probably the least of their concerns, though I think it is an important issue people should be aware of as well. |
