I notice graphics card manufactures are designing cards to work well with coin mining, so why don't they design them to work well with boinc? We want double precision! And we want it now! Because we don't buy enough of them to make them worthwhile, we may be many but we don't buy new stuff often enough. |

I guess you're right. When I (stupidly) tried to make money with altcoin mining, I bought several graphics cards brand new. For boinc I tend to use what I have lying around or purchased for other purposes. I've got my own computer which is for games, watching TV, internet etc. I've got some made out of scrap parts people have given to me. And I've got a few that are under test while I construct them for customers. |

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ImSDoLeuZFvmO6xoMpy2VMs9Du_6sHT5GqcORMtx2tQ This is part of your spreadsheet (the best 43 for DP FLOPS) with UK prices from Ebay including 2nd hand cards when available, then sorted by DP FLOPS per £. I'll be getting the Radeon HD 7970: https://www.dropbox.com/s/twgw7qjf0bkqoa2/Boinc%20card%20choice.xlsx?dl=0 |

I would consider that too, but I think in theory they are moving to N-body long term. What are the GPU prospects (and requirements) for that? I have asked in another thread, not necessarily expecting any answers at this point. But it is worth thinking about. |

I can't find anything on nbody being 64 or 32 bit in the last 6 years. Can you tell me where your post is as I'd like to see any answers. The 7970 (in the UK at least) is the best flops per £ for SP flops aswell, so I'd still go for it no matter what it's computing. |

n-body is a cpu application. |

n-body is a cpu application. It is at the moment, but they say they'll make it into GPU once testing is complete. |

Can you tell me where your post is as I'd like to see any answers. It is more of a rhetorical question, and there aren't likely to be any definitive answers, but it would be nice if the developers could update us on the status (if any). http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/forum_thread.php?id=4285&postid=67455#67455 |

That's a great spreadsheet Melk! Thank you. I just dumped it into Excel, then I had to remove the text wrap & merged cells. Once that was done I just sorted by column D which for me was the double precision score highest to lowest. Worked a charm! |
