For any of you who are thinking about trying Internet Explorer 8, my suggestion is to hold off until at least "SP1". It seems sluggish in comparison to IE7 and I'm not sure if all the features work as they should.

Also, for anyone who happens to play Internet Spades that ships with XP, I'd like to just say a couple of things... People playing that annoy me. It takes generally 5-10 "Find New Opponents" clicks until I find 3 other people out there in the world who are actually serious about playing. Many times a person comes in on the starting hand and bids a double blind nil, then bails out because they didn't get the cards to support it. What's the point in that? You want to have 200 points from the start, otherwise the game isn't worth playing??? Is there some bragging right thing like "I got 15 blind nils last night!". If so, isn't it kinda hollow when someone asks "Well, how many games did you win?" and you have to reply "Oh, none, I just like to see if I can get blind nils."

Oh, and then there are the people who just call it quits because they lose one early hand and don't stick around to see if they can pull out a victory... They'll bail and a computer opponent will take over, then that causes one or both of the remaining people to bail as well...

I get this stuff playing at "Expert" level. Unless I get really, really, really bad hands consistently, my partner and I usually win, that is if I can find someone that will stick around.

Yes I know what you mean Brian, I've made the mistake of installing IE8 had nothing but trouble with it( mostly freeze ups). Most of the new features I've tried work ok so far, most of them I could do without though.
As far as cards go I dont play Spades so I cant help you out there, but I do understand your frustration with the people you have described.

I went to the happiness of installing Firefox (its worth it just for AdBlock!) and not had any trouble with anything.

I find Opera is an excellent browser. In fact nearly all the other browsers "stole" ideas from Opera.

hhmmmm, I guess some people actually do use IE. Dig their OS but have nuthin but troubles with IE(especially 8). I'm more shocked to find out that people really do play the games that come with the OS. learn something new everyday...

The only thing I use IE for is to get the updates, because M$ will not let you use anything else. For everything else I us FF3.

What you do today you will have to live with tonight

I quite like IE7... with js switched off and activex by request only - miss out on a *lot* of shiny, bouncy, loud ads that way.
I only play Hearts and Tetris, and being the antisocial type that I am I play alone.
Which is why I have the 4870 - Hearts just isn't the same without it. :)
Cheers,

PeterV

I get and deploy the updates manually. Mostly cos I'm looking after half the PCs in this village now (it seems) and its a good excuse for a cuppa, chat and see what they've mucked up on their machines.
Mind you, IE gets called by many 3rd-party apps to "call home" and you find 50Mb or so of cookies and adverts in the cache...

I set IE to delete temp files when closing, really helps to keep the build up down. As well as running disk cleanup often to get rid of the rest.
Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected?
If it makes sense, DON'T do it.

Well, the other day I was chatting to a colleague in the staff room and explaining what Boinc was all about. He said he wouldn't be interested in searching for ET or gravity waves etc, but quite liked the thought of WCG with its cancer and aids projects and possibly Malaria. I think I might have convinced him to have a go. If and when he gets the bug who knows?

@Phil - I obviously know where you are coming from, but you could set up a village team of people, with each individual doing their seperate part ? :-))

I used netscape navigator until 4 years ago. I then switched to Fx, but just for some months until I got in touch with Opera.

I now use

Opera (mail, chat, browsing, webserver, bittorrent...)
Fx (Web developement with firebug)
IE 8 (Windows update)
Seamonkey (just testing out the alpha-versions)

I really think Fx is a very good browser, but I don't like it being hyped so much, so I do recommend Opera to my friends. I personally cannot cope with Fx because of missing features (I need a suite, not a browser), so it isn't suitable for me.
