I got the idea that if you all learn Norwegian,
some situations around here would be easier to
deal with :P

I will write each line in two different ways;
The correct way, and my way. ;-))

And those of you who had a great grand father from
Norway may pick up a little bit of this language again. :p

If there is anything special you want to know - just ask. A word , a sentence, what ever.

Sometimes, if i write it only in one way, it will be My way - how I speak - not necessarily correct norwegian writing-language ;-)) I would love to hear you speak my dialect. hehe.

Good idea! Keep it up. A pronunciation guide would help, I'd like to know how you pronounce å in mårn and blå, but recording [mp3?] and putting your phrases on your website for us to download and play is probably more effort for you than it is worth. So a couple of phrases each day or two should be enlightening without overloading either you or us.
I didn't know that Norway was big enough to have dialects. But I should have guessed - many 'old' countries do. Australia is 'young' and dialects, if any, are hard to detect. In holland pronunciation and meaning of words can vary considerably if you travel only 10 kilometres.
It is good to expose us english-only speakers to foreign languages and cultures. The reason why norwegian and english are similar is that some hundreds of years ago some of your people invaded bits of england, and some of their words, like their genes, were absorbed into english. One of the reasons why english is hard for others to learn is that it has absorbed words and phrases from almost all other languages - countries that have invaded england and countries that england has invaded.

Aye, thats a problem of course.. this pronounciation ;-) Not only dont
you know how æ ø and å sounds like. But even the other vocals sounds different
in Norwegian. All of them ;-)

i.e. the i Always sounds like the i in think. And a sounds more like the first sound when you say the name of the letter i. I dont know what word to say in english to get that sound. Dont think you use it. Its like when you just open your moth wide up and and say Aaaa- as with the dentist. hehehe.
The o sounds like the Last sound when you say o. All the norwegian vocals are Clean sounds. Not double or mixed as in english.
You may wonder how a norwegian in any way can speak english. ;-))Still, many
can. Amazing :p

I will have to think about it.. maybe i could make a small file with the
vocal sounds, and put up on the web-host.
There is other strange things hided on that web-site already. LoL

Yes, there is a LOT of dialects in this country. Each part of Norway has their own sound, Souht-norway, East norway, south-west, northwest, Middle- and North-Norway. Then there is differences even from one town to another, or from a small village in the countryside to the next. Thing is of course, that for people who are not much used with a surtain dialect maybe will not notice all the smaller differences. But its quite distinct sometimes. Like from the litle community where i live, - and into neighbour community there is a big difference. Like many words with u inside, they use the u, we make it to an o when we speak. also this special thing that some places in Norway happens to words with a double n - sounds like nnj here - but not in there. Also lots of gramma is very special for this place.
Saying a word like "å kunne" - means to know or - be able to -
å kunne, kan , kunne , kunnet. On my dialect we say;
å konnje, kannj, konnde, konnja.

I should like to be (have been) able to - will then be;
Eg skollde gjennje ha konnja. ;-))

hehe - yes, you should have heard it. But now you can at least Write something on a norwegian dialect - as like if you
had grown up there ;-)) Even many other norwegians would think youre crazy writing like that. LoL

yes, a lot of words in english is in real from Norway, and old norse language.Not that i remember right now, but at least the word "bag". it was called bagga in norse. But in Norwegian today we dont use that word, we use a totally different one. :p veske. ;-D But we also use the word bag, in the way we have got it "back" from English :p

I guess youre totally confused now.. Maybe we should start out with the pronomes (or what you call it) next time. hehe.

Well you've been listening to english, or at least american, tv since you were born. And you were probably taught it in school.

All these languages, norwegian, german and english, and several more, goes into the same "group" of languages yes. With differences. ;-) Still its very different. Maybe if you hear me speak one day ;-))
