Yeah.. as most of you should have noticed by now, the spring has come.
And by that all these birds putting the strange-shaped thingies around
on the ground, or in the threes, or in where ever they can make it. Its
said to be called eggs. But my thought of eggs, as eatable stuff, is
white on the outside. ;p My parents tried to get me to eat other
coloured eggs when i was a kid.. but i was not too fond of their ideas. ;-))
So mostly, if we had collected eggs (aye, of course, I loved to collect
them..hehehe) my mum used them for pancakes and other cakes. The bakings
get such a wonderful yellow colour when used this other ingredience. ;p

Well.. mostly it was seagull eggs that was used. For many years now I have
let the seagulls have their eggs for themselves. And why not, as I didnt
like those eggs anyhow. But what do you think has happend the last years?
Aye... i have two boys.. They have for some or another reason got this
fancy to collect eggs. hehehe. They have "heard" they are eatable.. but they
dont want to eat them. So they give them to me. Im trying to tell them that
I do not like to eat them either.. lol.. and they have heard it more than once.

The other day my oldest son came back home with two eggs. I said; wow.. what
are you planning to use them for? Are you going to bake? ;-)) Nope, he said,
I dont know what to do about them. hehe. I told him that maybe his grandmother
would like them. But she is not home right now, so if so, he would have to
put them in the fridge and wait, and hope there wouldnt come any seagulls in
there. So yesterday he came back home from school and then he asked me;
Mum, have you been checking today? Checking What, I said. - If we have gotten any
bird-kiddies in our fridge. ;-D All i said was that, If there are bird-kiddies
in the fridge, its surely not cold enough in there. ;-))

Well... this was just a tiny little everyday-story from the Moon`s Island.

Have a great day! ;-D

Well we aren't collecting eggs, but the geese have been hatching their goslings and we have about 30 goslings running around on our lake shore.

;-) its not a herring seagull, as that has a black back. Exactly what sort the
picture shows im not sure about.. i didnt ask him. ;-)

Well.. i have alot of seagull stories.. and other stories.. hehe.. maybe I should tell another one, whilst we wait for the ham omelett to get finished ;-)
When Seti is back up again, i should probably post it there too.. Im not to happy about copying posts.. but since we are in different places, i guess i have to forget about that thought. Well.. here we go;

When I was a kid, and actually up to 1994 we had sheeps here. And of course, every summer we used two weeks to cut the grass, to make winter food for the animals. Since this is an island, we also cut the grass down to the sea-line some places. And one of these places were a very loved spot for the seagulls to make a nest. That was not what you may call optimal circumstances for us as workers. hehe. It was terrible difficult to get the job done when angry seagulls was diving from above to take our heads ;-) Normally we got rid of them by taking all the eggs, and when that had happend a couple of time, they usually left, and found another place to stay.

One particular year, we got a new couple on this special spot. It was a Great Black-backed Gull couple. And they were obviously young and determined to have this great place to have their kids. As usual we started to take all the 3 eggs. They made new ones. Again, we took the 3 eggs. They made new ones. After doing this 4 times, and they still just continued to make more, and Not move, my father took a whole bucket of gravel and pored on top of the nest, after again removed the 3 eggs. After just a day or two we saw the seagull couple lying there again. When we went to have a look at it, we found that they had removed EVery little stone, one by one, out of the nest. hehehe. They had made 3 new eggs, and seemed to be very happy with themselves. ;-) Next step for us was to again - remove the 3 eggs, and then put a BIG rock in the middle of the empty nest. Yeah! Now we have got them. Finally. ;-) Its about to be smarter than seagulls.. thats the whole trick. ;-))
Next day.............. the seagull couple was lying there again... They had made a new nest, right beside the big rock. Now they even had sort of a shield to the north, so even more cosy. LoL. 3 new eggs... and they were happy as never before.

We desided to let them stay. They had won. And we just had to cope with it somehow. The strange thing was, that because of our occourance around their nest over and over again, they had got used to us. So they didnt care about what we were doing some few meters away from them.. ;-)

We and the seagulls lived in peace the rest of the summer.............

Thanks, Moon. Nice stories.
I wouldn't worry too much about copying posts as each board is separate and we are unlikely to be signed up for all of them.
Plus, if they're copied just to the Sic forum on each project then it is only those who have already signed up for your weirdness who will be seeing them, it won't be as if you're spamming the general board of each project. :)

Yes.. well, im not going to spam all the main boards with it ;-) But I do
have this Coconut-thread in Seti. Thats my free-corner for coconuttiness.. so
I post them there. ;-) Those who open that thread do know that it can contain
some weird stuff... :p

But dont you folks have some stories also? I mean, I cant be the only one

Okidoki... another small bird-story then.. hehe

Its just to complaint, and i will not post more of them.. maybe
heading to another theme instead.. as I might do anyway. pP ;-))

Another summer, another two weeks of work on the field, so the animals should
have food when the winter come.
Another bird, Eurasian Oystercatcher, called Tjeld in Norway. They also put their nest
and eggs directly on the ground. They also behave in a special way when they
feel something threatning their eggs, or kiddies. Mostly they fly away to a
totally different spot, sit down there and make a horrible noice, to somehow
fool the threater to think the eggs or kids are someone else. ;-) That normally
works, so until this spesific day I had not seen anything else from these birds.

Well, we were back to work, me and my father. We should gather all the grass in the area down to the sea.. and of course the Oystercatcher-couple, which we knew was there, got the idea we were too close. First they started to scream, from the other side of the narrow sound.. sitting on a pole over with our neigbours. hehe. They screamed one by one, then in choir, but it didnt help. We didnt go anywhere. After a long time, with a lot of noise, one of the birds came flying over. I guess they must have desided that my father was a "bigger" threat than I was.. hehehe.. so this bird consentrated on him.

First he landed some few meters from my dad, and started to scream to him. The bird jumped up and down some few times, and fell over. On its back, with the legs into the air. Dead. Totally. My dad looked at it and said to me; "look at that little guy.. he really Can play dead. ;-) It would work on another animal of course, but the poor bird doesnt know that im not a bird or another animal who has not learned these things. ;-)" He asked me to follow closely what would happen.

He went over to the bird, just as the bird wanted him to. When my dad bend over it to catch it, the bird jumped up, moved away a little bit, and stamped its small feet into the ground, very hard and determined. LoL.. He looked my father straight into the eyes, and stamped over and over again, until my father moved towards it. Then it turned around, and started to walk away.. first slow, then when my fathers strated to walk after, it went faster and faster.. hehe. If you have seen the way pinguins "run" .. well this was how the bird was running over the fields.. And my father "run" behind it, copying the birds movements.. Two running pinguins, one tiny, one big.. all the way back to the houses. It was hilarioius! hehehe.. I will never ever forget that sight. ;-)

Nice story. :)
Exactly the way that bird behaves to Save the Children. :)
It can look kind of funny, but mostly it works too. Fun to watch it, and sometimes play along with it for a while.
I can see it clearly before my eyes. The bird first and your father after it. ;)

Message 23402 - Posted: 26 May 2009 | 13:07:13 UTC

My grandparents on my mums side lived in Bergen.
Ive always loved my grandfathers house. Ive been walking
in and out there since I was born.. and I
have also lived there for two shorter periods.. First from I was 1,5
to 2,5 years. When my brother was 1/2 a year we moved back here to our
island ;-) Then, when I was 5, I wanted So much to go in a kindergarden,
and there were none such here at that time. So they desided they would
let me stay with my grandparents for half a year to go in a kindergarden
in Bergen. I loved it! But I also missed my parents of course. Well, it
was a special experience for a little girl ;-)

My grandfather bought that house in 1950 i think.. They had 5 kids, my
mother is the oldest. The house has 4 appartments; one in the celler,
two on 1th floor, and 1 on top floor, where my grandparents lived. The others
has been rented out. But now - the horrible sad thing; My grandmother died
few years ago, and my grandfather this spring, as you know.. Now its
empty.. and none of us can afford to take it over.. as its worth alot of
money.. :( So........ maybe it will all be rented out for a while, and then
sold.. Many of us grand children want our parents to save one of the apartment,
- keep it in the family, own it toghether.. so that all of us that doesnt live in Bergen can have a place
to come to.. and feel home - as we always have done there. It will be horrible
the day they eventually sell all of it.. Yes, its a great house - and its
a wonderful place - so close to the center of the city, and still as it
lies on a trown... ;-)

Also my own house i painted yellow from the start. I never saw it as anything
else.. But it went actually several years before I came in thought that also
my grandfathers house is yellow ;-))
Well....

I`ll have a look through some photos later tonight, and post a few.. There is a
very special door into the top apartment in this house. I love that one too.
Never seen anything like it. ;-) ..yes, I have a photo of it. You just wait
and see. ;-D

Here is a small everyday story.

Most of you know that I drive for a living at this time.

Well the last week was 4377 even though it was short. for the first 2 days we only had 2 drivers, that did the work of 4 the last 2 days there were 3 of us but the work load was just as bad. one of our drivers had a medical procedure done on Monday and was still too sore to come back to work on Friday.
On the bright side of this we have some very good passengers and they understand when we are short handed. Most of them will do all they can to help us out and make our day go a bit easier.
I just hope when I get to their age and can no longer drive that I will be as understanding and patient as they are.
