DriverCleaner!

Couple things to try...
Have you tried add/remove? Boot up in safe mode and try deleting? (Works a lot of the tiem when the other methods don't)

If that doesn't work I'll see what else I think of.

will try that
i have it set to use 75% gpu , it still crashes fairly regularly core temp about 70c

bout 66 sec per WU now

ATI GPU app 0.19f is always running "high priority"
This causes that the CPU app running on the same PC is limited to only 2 cores
I tries to fix it with "<cmdline>n1</cmdline>"
Only the number of CPUs specified in <cmdline>n(x)</cmdline> runs active while 18 WUs show that they are running but is waiting for a GPU
Im running boinc 5.4.7 and tried 6.6.36 with no luck
Is there a fix for this?

Win XP Pro (32) sp3
CPU = Q8200 quad
4 Gb memory
1 x ATI 4500 (Cat 812)
Boinc 5.4.7

A BLAST FROM YOUR PAST

I can't be bothered even trying to fix it.

app_info.xml in the project directory for milkyway

avg_ncpus sets how many "CPUs" each WU takes.
max_ncpus sets how many total "CPUs" MW can take.

Default is .1 and 1 = 10 running WUs, even if only 1 is getting resources (via n1).

To change that behavior, adjust avg_ncpus. I want 4 WUs marked "running" and 3 actually running so I use no n setting (since 3 is default), avg_ncpus .33, and max_ncpus 1.

That marks 4 running, 3 are actually getting resources. I do that so the stupid manager never "sleeps" the project.

If you really only want 1 running, and 1 marked running, set n1 and avg_ncpus 1.

PS: You can edit the file any time you want but changes only take effect when you restart the BOINC manager.

Oh, forgot one more thing: None of this may help. The manager may just decide it needs more cores to meet debt requirements, and not run any CPU work anyways, even if you lock MW to just 1 WU at a time. Not sure about the 5.x managers, but that's what the 6.x managers do when they get confused. Watching a CPU core idle because the manager is trying to run multiple instances of MW. <sigh>

That's the whole problem with posting your individual settings that you use to run the ATI Cards, what you post may only work for 1 out of 1000 other People or nobody at all even.

That's because of all the different OS, CPU's, Manager's each of us use, Different Projects each of us run etc ... My own settings don't work from Project to Project that I run with the ATA Cards @ Milkyway, every time I change Projects I have to find some other settings that work with the new Project to make the ATI Cards behave.

I run 9.5 with no problems.

But Vista, not XP. That does make a difference ;)

Ok, i spent some time trying various combinations on my Core 2 6400 running XP Pro x64 SP2 and a HD4850. The only reliable driver (no problems at all after hours of testing, just some lag) is Catalyst 8.11. Version 8.12 simply refused to install (all I got was a blue screen). Any version > 9.5 gave VPU errors just trying to open/close existing windows. And yes, I also tried different options inside app_info.. no way..

Hope this helps others with XP x64.

Sorry for bothering you about this but ... do you know how would it possible for me (having a dual core and 1 gpu) to set up boinc or the app_info files in order to have MW WUs running all the time and at least one core crunching a CPU application?

currently crunching MW (400% share) PrimeGrid(200) and SETI AP (100)

thank you all for any hints

Yep. I have MW running on my GPUs and other projects running on my CPU. The trick is to find projects that have a good continuous flow of work, since BOINC will prempt MW crucnhing if one project has been out of work for a while and then your cache is filled with it.

I wish the devs would give advanced users the option to allocate CPU cores and GPU fractions to specific projects and ignore the debt build up if a selected project has no work.

Hi, i have got some problems.

First, my configuration:

OS Vista 64b
BM 6.6.36 64b
Optimized app. v0.19f 64b
Catalyst v 9.8

I´ve instaled optimalisation, rename and add dll files in system32, start aplication and OS reset graphic hw and than work stops.

I´v tried only one WU and for 20 test it was OK. In other cases PC crash.

This only one unit is valid and was in 90 sec done. Realy nice time.

I tried cat 9.1, all is ok, but 3 WUs run for 8 minutes.

Can you help me please. Thanks

PS: Sry for my english :-)))

So far, nobody has had nothing nice to say about the drivers after 9.5.

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/9-5/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx?&lang=Czech

That should keep it from crashing the driver.

I dont konw how ppl with new drivers not work i spend 10 min for remove old drivers and install new ones, and after install i restart pc and all work prefect. After restart i copy and rename cal files and resume boinc for new tasks.

Most i think problem is in pc mobo bios it bad. I always use ASUS mobos even beta bios files and all looks good.

MY pc uptime is weeks even months. I recomend to test pc for folding@home if something not work or EUE, that means pc not stable. Im folder i folded 4 years for 24/7

Have you tried it with WinXP? On Vista and Win7 the newer drivers appear to run if the rest of the system is stable.

But with XP I had absolutely no luck with Cat 9.3 and above. I'm just trying to change the way the app copies the data into the graphics card RAM. For me it looks like the continous copy of small amounts of data to the card may cause the instability with newer drivers under XP. Supposedly ATI changed the handling of these asynchronous copies by the driver which breaks the app running on a WinXP system.

What I'm planning to do now is to consolidate the copies to fewer, bigger ones. Let's see if it helps.
