Why No Work?

Posted 2 Nov 2009 by Kevint Post:
I think you missed the point. There seems to be people that like to start new threads for every hiccup or problem, rather than finding older threads. Maybe if you had taken the time to see my first post regarding the no new work issue, then you might have seen the irony in it all. What I find the most annoying is having new "no work" threads popping up every time there is no work. Or new threads about old issues. Instead of reviewing threads/posts that may have already covered the issues... But then again, your comment has further made my point. Thank you! |

GPU app teaser
(Message 31229)
Posted 20 Sep 2009 by Kevint Post: Renaming the files isn't hard work but it doesn't work and this is after several Windows and driver reinstallations. The application NEEDS updating! I don't care whether they create two different applications, one for XP and one for Vista/Win 7 but with the advent of the 5870 (which I'm going to buy) Milkey Way at home is going to lose out. The "they" you speak if of NOT the BOINC staff - if it were left up to DA and the bunch it would still be months if not a year out. Crunch3r is the one credited for getting this done . I think Gispel had some input to it, forgive me if I am missing someone here that I am not aware of. But I do know for certain that DA and group had nothing to do with the implementation of ATI/CAL into BOINC core. And the ATI app was not written by the MW staff. As mentioned by Crunch3r, it was Gispel that did this work. It took the MW staff MONTHS to even get a working version for CUDA - and I have to wonder how well that code is really doing. Not well from what I have heard and seen. The MW/CAL app is an optimized app, and in my opinion does not need updating any more than it is. You don't have to run it you know.... There are stock apps that you can crunch with and not have to worry about renaming any files or doing anything special to get them to run. |

Credit lowering
(Message 30927)
Posted 15 Sep 2009 by Kevint Post:
This actually seems fair enough, but lowering the credit over and over again is not how you gain friends. The next truly ATI supported project that comes along that works and is stable... there will be an exodus from your project because of the way we are treated. I have a PM from you from months back that you said your determination for credit was based on the stock MW app as compared to SETI stock app. Now after some months you have gone back and modified that position. I propose that the stock app to stock app the credit per hour was nearly the same. Now however, I can only suppose that SETI will be higher. But really why would you want to compare your credit to SETI? Really? Why? Because that is just the way it is done? Is this a science project or a DA project? Just asking. |

Credit lowering
(Message 30700)
Posted 13 Sep 2009 by Kevint Post: Others lost credit too so your place in top 100 will not change much. ?????? What???? That is ONLY assuming that those in front of him are crunching MW. AFAIK, the other projects have not gone and done the stupid thing like reducing credit, Unannounced, or, after it was reduced. Like the CS project admins here. |

Great idea !!!!!! |

pulled the plug last night
(Message 29037)
Posted 8 Aug 2009 by Kevint Post: I had some similar problems. I was just about ready to trash the card I decided to try one more thing. I pulled the cooling fins on the GPU cleaned and replaced the thermal grease, and re-attached. Walla. The only thing I can figure is that the cheapo thermal compound that was being used not transferring heat from the GPU to the cooling fins quick enough causing some overheating. OR there was just not a good enough seal between the cooling fins and the GPU. Anyway it fixed it. These were Dark Knight brand 4870's |
