1) Message boards : News : Award Badges Going Live Soon! (Message 60568)

Hi
You should have badges for 2M, 3M and 4M. To go from 1M to 5M between badges is a bit much.
My laptop is on 24/7 and only crunches 0.5M stones a year. So it will take roughly 8 years to go from 1 badge to the next!
Also what is to stop anyone registering and doing one work unit and never crunching again. they will see their levels of service badges increase without really earning them. You should only award service badges to anyone who completes a certain number of units per year or better still they have to crunch units on a certain number of days per year.

Hurry up Travis.

Some of us just switch on and away it goes.

We don't know about CPU's and GPU's, etc.

We don't know about fixes, etc or graphic cards or Nvidia, etc!

We just know we can't get units unless we put all your preferences to on, when the middle one cocks up our computing units from other BOINC sources such as malariacontrol.net as your units want to use all the CPU's.

So we download one work unit from you, let it run, then switch off the preferences again allowing the other work units a chance when your's has finished.

AAAHHH!!!!

As you can see by event log in the first few lines I requested tasks and it says that I don't need any.
There are none on my list so I closed down my malariacontrol tasks to force milkyway to send me tasks and now at the end few lines it is saying no tasks available!
Which is right?
All it wants to do is defer communication!

Hi Travis.

In lay-mans terms.

I have two laptops running at once 24 hrs a day.

The first is an emachines E525 which is computer number 239846 on your system.
The second a Compaq CQ57 which is number 494915 on your system.

I don't know what boards, etc are inside.

Both are set for applications
@Home - yes
@Nbody - no
@Seperation - yes

I don't bother with the middle one as we all had problems before.

For the last 36 hours neither laptop will download new work units no matter when I asked.

Earlier on the top laptop listed I altered it to take the Nbody units. A few came down but were over in about a minute and a couple were processing but staying at 0% completed so I went back to my previous preferences, and nothing would download.

I have just tried again to alter the preferences and it has sent me task number 498002914 which stated that it would take 35,000 hours to complete.
Actually at 27 mins it is 11% complete with 34,153 hours to go!

The problem is, like earlier and before (hence the alteration to the preferences) it is running on 2 cpu's stopping my other project from working.

Why can't either or both laptops now find they are unable to download the units under my preferences? Is there a problem at your end or mine? Is my problem unique or a general one?

Thanks for any help in this matter as I enjoy being a member of "The Team" since 29th November 2010.

I must have had one of these work units but to be truthful didn't look when I aborted it.

Left it running as always when I next looked it said it was High Priority. No problem there but 8 hours has passed whilst a usual unit takes 2-3 hours on my laptop.

Still no problem but what made me abort was it was showing 16,500 odd hours to completion and rising by a few minutes each second!

I'm used to long hours as my Climate Prediction work units take 6-700 hours to complete but 16,500 hours is a lifetime!

After watching my laptop spend 62 hours completing one of these new 300 odd hour projects without a problem, I saw as it was finishing after saying 100% complete, ready to upload, it suddenly comes up with computing error. Strange.
