Something weird with teams. The first ten show in reverse on this page as well.

Searching for a team shows errors:

Find a team

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /export/share0/www/boinc/milkyway_gpu/html/inc/team.inc on line 35

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /export/share0/www/boinc/milkyway_gpu/html/inc/team.inc on line 42

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /export/share0/www/boinc/milkyway_gpu/html/inc/team.inc on line 43

Making a new team shows more errors, which I can't show since I already made my team (and didn't copy those errors).

The outlook is undetermined. Anyone's guess is as good as the next person's now. All bets are off, reset. ;-)

Now then, so much for BOINC 6.8 having ATI support. That's pushed back for BOINC 6.10 and maybe even later.

Funny. Here I am ID 141. On GPU I am ID 14.

So I will get very cross if it gets deleted again. ;-)

Thanks for the update, Dave. I'm still good for a couple of days. :-)

Is that RAC also in place for posting on the forums? Or did you not add that yet?
If you did, a lower number might be prudent, what with the little amount of work around and our RAC decay continuing.

I wonder if going to 5.10x is OK with the ATI cards, or is this best just for CPU crunching?

For crunching with the ATI cards at this moment it shouldn't matter, as you're using the anonymous platform file (app_info.xml) to tell BOINC what application to use, while the brook.dll file tells the application that everything happens on the coprocessor.

I don't know how much power my Sapphire HD3850 (AGP) draws, but it does come with a dual molex to 6 pin power connector which said enough to me. Although I first ran it on one power connector only (all through playing Far Cry 2) and that didn't make my system crash. ;-)

The thing you really have to watch out for is the size. These cards are long! 24 centimeters from end to end. make sure you have that space, also cos you still have to attach the power cable(s).

I'm not using my HD3850 to get work here, just my plain old two CPUs and both have got work. All I did was sleep, so there's something you must have done wrong. ;-)

(And I am on such a BOINC version which if it doesn't get work, will go into longer and longer back-offs until we're backing off for 24 hours... )

No, I think what happened was that Nvidia gave the BOINC devs some money and a couple cards to implement CUDA first.

Cards yes, money no. And the cards only to make sure the code they implemented into BOINC actually worked.

So I ask again, not what poorboy is doing or whether I read my own threads, but "has anyone got the HD4890 working with the optimized apps?"

I would wait until the correct drivers are released. The problem at the moment seems to be that the available drivers (Cats 9.3) don't support the 4890. The 9.4s (to be released today?) should.

Well, there's still no Milkyway_GPU at http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway_gpu/, other than a directory listing pointing to the Parent directory (homepage of here). So perhaps it is time to try one out on a game. Oblivion, WOW, Crysis, Massive Multiplayer Online Patience ... :-D

And when the driver start working and we start getting some WUs, there is this:
http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/686/1051686/first-liquid-cooled-hd4890-arrives

Funny how they talk about a single slot design, but the card will take up two slots. It even has a double backplate! Besides, aren't all cards of single slot design? I've never seen a double slot design, wouldn't even know how to get one of those in, what with the amount of (read lack of) space one has in cases and on motherboards these days. ;-)

Anywho in the ATI/AMD Forum their saying a new 9.4 Driver is due out tomorrow & will support the new 4890 Cards. Whether it will work so you can run the WU's with it is to be seen yet.

Ah, but that's not the first thing that the drivers are for. They're primarily used so you can see something on your monitor. ;-)
(And then run Crysis with everything on very high fluently)

Funny the 8.60 Drivers are installed already but the Setup on the .iso CD tells me I don't have a compatible card or operating system. Their the right Drivers as I checked & double checked on the CD already. It's impossible to get the wrong ones really as long as you pick the right card.

Don't be too sure. For fun I downloaded the 633MB package. It's not an ISO, but a zip file. Unzipped it and there's lots of stuff under the Docs directory including a very funny THX Shrek video and what I guess are drivers 8.503 for Vista (98MB) and XP (200MB).

200MB for XP drivers? What? What do they add? Their own operating system?

Again, the only Driver that will install is the v8.60 Driver that Diamond put on the CD that came with the Video Card. This Driver isn't even listed @ the ATI Site so I don't know where it came from

The Catalysts 9.3 consist of the 8.591 Radeon display driver & CCC. The 4890s aren't in the release notes (PDF file), too new a card I suspect. Hence why your 8.60 drivers are the correct ones and newer, being hotfix drivers.

PS: The Diamond Site does have some new Drivers for the 4890 Card that were released the 2'nd of April, the Drivers on the CD were from March 16'th, it's a 680mb download though & I'm not sure what version it is either other than it says 5.4. I'm downloading them now & will see what they are & give them a try later.

680MB for drivers? Things shouldn't get any stranger...

I just checked their download site and just drivers for WinXP alone is 633MB. Wonder what could be in there. An ISO for your OS? ;-)
