Out of Work
(Message 34883)
Posted 28 Dec 2009 by [PST]Howard Post: From the Front Page Updating Daemons December 28, 2009 I'm having some problems recompiling a few of the daemons, but I'm hoping to have things back up and running and work being generated tonight. I'll keep everyone posted. Server Code Updated (Finally) December 28, 2009 We've finally gotten the server side code updated for the BOINC daemons. So within the next week we're going to make ATI applications available server side. More information to come after I recompile our assimilator/validator with the new code. |

Posted 23 Nov 2009 by [PST]Howard Post: As Travis has already posted elsewhere on Thursday, the Hard Drives have arrived, now he is waiting for the Labstaff to install them, he hoped for Friday, but Friday being "POETS Day" - "Push Off Early Tomorrows Saturday", its more realistic to expect them to do it in the next few days. |

Screensaver
(Message 33562)
Posted 23 Nov 2009 by [PST]Howard Post: Shame. Sometimes if you want to get the kids to play you have to offer them some candy. Running a screensaver is like taking candy from a baby - it uses valuble CPU cycles which reduces the amount of data processed and therefore, means it will take longer for the project to reach its goal. |

Server Crash November 10
(Message 33266)
Posted 14 Nov 2009 by [PST]Howard Post: OK -- server crash on November 10 -- the home page indicates 'hopefully replacement drives in a day or two'. Now I realize that 'a day or two' is what I refer to as 'airport time' -- you encounter a flight with delayed boarding, are told that boarding will happen in 20 minutes, you come back in 20 minutes and are told = 'we told you before, boarding will happen in 20 minutes' -- check back in 20 minutes. I think you've spent too much time in the Airport, it's time to take a Taxi into BOINC city, go to a Bar and have a cool beer. How many times have you ordered something and been told it will arrive in 2 days but you end up waiting a week or more. I would rather Milkyway be down for another 2 weeks, giving time for Travis to get things running properly before we all hammer the server. Theres plenty of work out there on other projects, that's the beauty of BOINC. |
