21) Message boards : Number crunching : Out Of Work? (Message 65398)

Indeed, the behaviour changed in the last days.
I've increased the workbuffer to 0,2 / 0,2, but that did not help.

Might it be possible that the workbuffer is not estimated correctly due to running more than one wu at a time and longer runtimes are reported?
0,4 days should be some hundred wu's, this buffer was nerver filled up. Is it possible, that the sceduler calculates the number of required wu's by the last request of the account, not the machine? This could explain, why a mixed account with fast and slow machines does not work well.

Hey Everyone,

I did some work tuning the database yesterday to improve insert query times for the workunit generator after determining that query was the bottle neck in work unit generation. Seems to have vastly improve the work unit availability. If you guys are still running out of work units please let me know.

Jake

Hi Jake,

THX for the work, looks good now.
Pls let me remind you on the HD4850 issues, they do not get work since ~ 2 weeks, worked fine before.
BOINC reports these cards as:
04.10.2016 21:35:06 | | OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 0: ATI Radeon HD 4700/4800 (RV740/RV770) (driver version CAL 1.4.1734, device version OpenCL 1.0 AMD-APP (937.2), 512MB, 480MB available, 2080 GFLOPS peak)

Joseph,

some others too reported this problem; my own HD4850 has no work atm.
As posted in another thread, the major problem is to supply enough wu's, afterwards this problem will be solved.
Be patient for a few more days.

Sebastian,

Its strange that the HD4850s don't get work anymore. I think it might have to do with the update to the scheduler I did this morning. It looks like it is recognizing newer cards but not older cards. I wonder if I can write a custom patch for the scheduler to increase the number of cards it recognizes.

Jake

I can confirm that HD4850 does not get work atm.

I'm running now 2wu's according to a app_config.xlm file.
GPU load, as reported from GPU-Z, was and is ~100%, but the gaps between are gone.
Temp is typically near 30 degrees C with peaks up to 37 deg.
Will make my decision for a new RX card in the next days.

I'm really happy that it works, did not work a year ago.
Running win10 64Bit version, gpu detection reorts:
27.09.2016 19:31:24 | | OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 0: AMD Radeon(TM) R7 Graphics (driver version 2117.9 (VM), device version
OpenCL 2.0 AMD-APP (2117.9), 2559MB, 2559MB available, 553 GFLOPS peak)

Maybe i can mix APU and GPU ...

A couple of minutes ago I rejoined my A10-7700 APU - it's working!

2m39s for a wu, not bad for a APU!

MilkyWay@Home v1.39 (opencl_nvidia_101) are processing without error and waiting for validation. I hope they finally will!

My system is:
* Windows 10 home Core x64 Edition
* Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6500 CPU @ 3.20GHz
* NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB (3072MB) driver: 372.70 OpenCL: 1.2

Your computer is hidden, so:
can you report runtimes, please?

Are there concrete numbers about the performance? Maybe I will replace my old HD4800 with a RX470 next time if this card gets work.

OK, a complete deinstallation and reinstallation of an older driver did it.

After that the system does not get work.
Any ideas?

Yes, this is a well known problem. Some time ago there were different wu types with different runtimes, this was helpful. Maybe they come back ..

Hey everyone,

We do not currently have plans to support android on MilkyWay@home at this time.

Sorry for the disappointment,

Jake

Jake, thank you for the answer. I know that and I accept that, it's up to the project and the policy they have to decide which apps will be developed and which not.
My personal request points more to the small group of High level programmers like Raistmer, Crunch3r & Co who have proofed to be able to develop and maintain a stable app, which could be run as 'Anonyme Plattform (CPU)' or could be the first app using the internal gpu's. Some of them are able to run full-profile Open-CL 1.0.
I also would like to say thank you to Profile matszpk for some years of happy crunching with native boinc and some apps developed by him.

Are any numbers about DP performance available? I could not find any test that has any information about that.
I've seen @ Einstein, that the standard clocked card is ~ twice as fast as my HD7950 and consumes a bit less power, but this is a SP project.

Add another request for Android from me.
I ran the app from matszpk for some years with little or no problems. After the latest update they all fail (the MW apps, others still work). And Android 5 and newer requires a different version.

Looking on my devices, i can say, it's worth crunching these wu's:
http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/show_host_detail.php?hostid=591534 has crunched 238,764 credits, ID: 523949 has crunched 580,848 credits aso.

Maybe someone with the knowledge has time and interest to adapt the existing app, can be found on Github, see link in the first post here.

I'm really sorry that Native Boinc is no longer supported and updated, the gui is much nicer than the official BOINC. And it worked very well!
