First North Korean Nuclear Test (2006)

In 1994, North Korea signed the "Agreed Framework," consenting to freeze its plutonium production program, but it covertly continued to pursue nuclear technology. On October 3, 2006, North Korea announced its intention to detonate a nuclear device. The test was conducted six days later, but its explosive force was so small that many question whether the test was truly successful.

The Tempest Prognosticator

The Tempest Prognosticator, known also as the Leech Barometer because it uses leeches to predict storms, was invented in 1850 by Dr. George Merryweather. The device contains 12 leeches, each kept in a small bottle. When the leeches become agitated by electrical conditions in the atmosphere generated by an approaching storm, they attempt to climb out of the bottles and trigger a small hammer that strikes a bell.

Which stands for Virtual Club. It's from the new pre-BSG Caprica television series. In the pilot episode it's an online holographic virtual reality party place where anything goes to the limit of technology. Here that means the limit of Admin's patience. Post away.

When does the new season start for Caprica?

There is a monkey in the bar
A man walks into a bar and orders a beer. He takes his first sip and sets it down. While he is looking around the bar, a monkey swings down and steals the pint of beer from him before he is able to stop the monkey.

The man asks the barman who owns the monkey. The barman replies the piano player. The man walks over to the piano player and says "Do you know your monkey stole my beer." The pianist replies "No, but if you hum it, I'll play it."

The Lost Land of Lemuria

Puzzled by the presence of lemur fossils in Madagascar and India—but not in Africa or the Middle East—19th-century geologist Philip Sclater theorized that the two land masses containing the fossils had once been part of a larger, now mostly submerged continent, which he named "Lemuria." Following the scientific community's acceptance of the theories of plate tectonics and continental drift, however, Sclater's theory was widely dismissed.

Yoga Good for Lower Back Pain

Low back pain affects approximately 80% of the general US population at some point in life with sufficient severity to cause absence from work. According to researchers, people who suffer chronic low-back problems and experience mild to moderate functional disability as a result can reduce their symptoms simply by taking up yoga. In a recent study, participants who took 90-minute Iyengar yoga classes twice a week for 24 weeks, performing postures targeted at relieving chronic low-back pain, experienced a greater reduction in pain and depression than those who received conventional medical treatment.

Democratic People's Republic of Korea Established (1948)

During the Soviet occupation of North Korea, a Korean communist named Kim Il Sung was selected to lead the new state. Under his leadership, North Korea established Soviet-style regulation of the economy and fought a war with US-backed South Korea. His son, Kim Jong Il, succeeded him after his death in 1994 and replaced the widely used Gregorian calendar with a calendar whose years begin with the birth of his father.

Queen Liliuokalani of Hawaii (1838)

Liliuokalani was the last reigning queen of the Hawaiian Islands. She ascended the throne in 1891 upon the death of her brother, King Kalakaua. Her refusal to recognize the constitutional changes inaugurated in 1887 precipitated a revolt—fostered largely by resident American sugar planters—which led to her dethronement in early 1893 and the establishment of a provisional government. Liliuokalani wrote many songs, including the popular "Aloha Oe,"
