Please see screengrab confirmation from GPU-z that I have a AMD 7970M.
If you can please add my time to the benchmark list I would appreciate it.

Thanks for helping with my benchmark and explanation of the tech!

Oh yeah, I am running both CPU & GPU at stock setting. Since I crunch on my bad-ass Digital Storm gaming laptop ;-)

Ok, I just did a benchmark per instructions at start of thread and see the following results for crunching on my GPU (using .945 of a CPU core)

WU #1 374.75
WU #2 364.39
WU #3 360.2
WU #4 379.88
WU #5 353.42

Average (seconds run-time): 366.528

Please add this to the GPU Benchmarking results list.

My system:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3720QM CPU @ 2.60GHz [Family 6 Model 58 Stepping 9]
Number of processors 8
Coprocessors AMD AMD Radeon HD 7850/7870 series (Pitcairn) (2048MB) driver: 1.4.1741 OpenCL: 1.02
NOTE: Windows Device Manager shows 'display adapter' as: AMD Radeon HD 7970M
Operating System Microsoft Windows 7
Home Premium x64 Edition, Service Pack 1, (06.01.7601.00)
BOINC version 7.2.42

Update:

I've found answers for questions #1 and #3.

I am now running 2 WU on my GPU at the same time and complete slightly more this way than running one at a time.

I've also updated my settings to throttle back my CPU use from 100% (all 8 cores) to 87.5% (7 cores). Leaving one CPU core unused has DRAMATICALLY sped up the GPU performance.

I will do some proper benchmarking of my GPU in the coming days when I have some free time and fill you in on the results.

Cheers,
Spencer

Hello Assimilator!

Yeah, I got sidetracked with crunching for SETI, for some reason felt compelled to break the one million credit mark for that project, but am glad to put my GPU back on task with MW@home now ;-)

I currently run my GPU on MW@home, whilst running all 8 CPU cores on a separate BOINC project concurrently (Constellation).

I'm happy to do some benchmarking. A few questions:

1.) I'm currently only running one GPU WU at a time. Can you please point me in right direction to a thread or provide instructions for how to change my settings to run 2 GPU WU at a time? My GPU should be able to handle it...

2.) Did I read the results in the benchmarking thread correctly, that both Titan and 780Ti GPU have worse relative performance than my mobile GPU? I've heard that AMD GPUs perform better that Nvidia GPUs on MW@home, but this is surprising!

3.) Should I only run the MW@home WUs on my GPU and not do any CPU crunching to get a better performance benchmark?

Thanks for your input, sorry about my ignorance on these things, I have lots to learn!!

Hello,

After a bit of time off, I am back crunching again for MW@home! I'd been 'chasing the rabbit' a bit with SETI@home, and recently hit a milestone with credits for that project.

So it's now time to shift my GPU back to MW@home. Looking forward to getting my five million credit goal in the near future as well!

Does anyone know if BOINC or other volunteer computing platforms will be able to run on the new consoles coming out later this year from Sony and Microsoft? Seems they would be a good way to add some decently capable GPU compute resources to MW@home...

Not sure if those consoles will be engineered in a way to run at full load for sustained periods, but thought to ask. I know the PS3 had a "folding@home" app that added over 100 million compute hours to that program, would be great if the same could be offered through either or both of the new platforms, especially since the new hardware will be even more powerful than the current generation.

Thought to share this exciting milestone for my involvment with crunching on MW@home, I started in Dec, so my goal is to pass 5,000,000 points by the end of this year.

Wish me luck!
