14) Message boards : Number crunching : 3rd.in - optimized apps (Message 29971)
Posted 30 Aug 2009 by Profile Dingo
Post:
If I have the optimised app and app_info file from zslip will that stop me getting the new CUDA wu that are out for NVIDEA GPU's. I am asking because I was running this new PC on the standard application from MW and I also got the new CUDA wu's as well to process.

I want to make sure there isn't anything I need to add to the app_info so that it runs the CUDA application as it is not in the app_info ?

The app_info I downloaded is this one.

<app_info>
<app>
<name>milkyway</name>
</app>
<file_info>
<name>astronomy_0.19_SSSE3.exe</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<app_version>

<version_num>16</version_num>
<file_ref>
<file_name>astronomy_0.19_SSSE3.exe</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
<app_version>
<app_name>milkyway</app_name>
<version_num>19</version_num>
<file_ref>
<file_name>astronomy_0.19_SSSE3.exe</file_name>
<main_program/>

</app_version>

It has gone back to normal. I changed my Computing preferences in WCG yesterday. I changed them in MW and noticed that the setting "Use at most
(Can be used to reduce CPU heat) Enforced by version 5.6+ 100 percent of CPU time" was set at 50%. I don't remember this setting at all just the On multiprocessors one......

On multiprocessors, use at most
Enforced by version 6.1+ 100 % of the processors

Use at most

Enforced by version 5.6+ 100 percent of CPU time

17) Message boards : Number crunching : Unusual cpu behavour (Message 14391)
Posted 8 Mar 2009 by Profile Dingo
Post:
On my pc and I usually run 2 wu's on a duel core and the CPU is steady at 100%. I have two milkyway running and when these are running it is bouncing between 14% and 100% but not steady. I am not sure if it is the work units but never seen that before. It is happening on all my PC's. Not utilizing 100% CPU is cause to stop crunching so I hope it is fixed soon.

**** OK not just Milkyway, my fault for not looking further. I have a PC with two WCG units running and it is doing the same thing. Very unusual, maybe it is a memory thing as I attached to MCG yesterday and I am running WCG and Milkyway on the same PC's ?/

Anyone with ideas please let me know......

OK on one Linux PC it just said SSE2 but on the windows using CPU-Z it says SSE3 so I guess I am fine and do not need a SSE2 version. I am not up on all this stuff :)

Thanks
