second day now...

6/1/2012 11:26:15 AM | Milkyway@Home | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
6/1/2012 11:26:15 AM | Milkyway@Home | No work available

Is it just me or is there really no work ? Should I switch to something else for a while ?

Not just you, same here. I'm runing POEM@home while Milkyway is low on GPU wu's.

To Matthew Newby and others in the milkyway staff.

The complain regarding the Computer 27701 and others that are able to constantly download thousands of workunits but not deliver any results is that they are....

1. Misusing their own recourses.
2. Misusing YOUR recourses.

As mikey pointed out here
A problem like this should be able to handle automatically server side i.e. the computer should get fewer and fewer workunits all the way down to 1 until he starts to deliver error free results back to you and in time.

In other words. This problem should not exist at all.

This user 27701 was reported to you almost 1 year ago.
In progress (9043) | Pending (0) | Valid (0) | Invalid (0) | Error (1751)

It doesn't appear MW is using the tools the Server has, if a pc returns junk units it gets the number of units available to it reduced by some until it starts returning valid units again. This keeps faulty pc's from overloading the Server as they just end up being re-issued anyway.

Maybe it's just too complicated to use this tools for an Institute's departments of Computer Science? ;)

It would also be better if you excluded the BOINC data directory from your scan as the AV software can corrupt work as it scans.

Plus it also sometimes pops up a false positive on a completely safe app.

Yes, but on the other hand they can be infected. ;)
And as long Boinc are not running during the scan and no virus are detected the files should not be altered.

Problem solved. Rolled back to Boinc 6.10.60, reinstalled Catalyst 12.1 and rebooted and now it finally works. I have also made a virus scan and had no warnings this time. The virus warning I had before was "2012-02-19, 09:40:41";"NT INSTANS\SYSTEM";"IDP";"Process MILKYWAY_SEPARATION_1.02_WINDOWS_X86_64__OPENCL_AMD_ATI.EXE was detected."

Reseting doesn't work and updating to Boinc 7.0.8 didn't help but running Poem@Home seams to work fine.
I guess that the message "2012-02-19 12:51:54 | | [error] Can't create HTTP response output file projects/milkyway.cs.rpi.edu_milkyway/milkyway_separation_1.02_windows_x86_64__opencl_amd_ati.exe" indicates that the error is on my side. Any ideas what to do?

I got a virus warning on one of the milkyway files during a scan and deleted the file and reset the Milyway project but now I get the following error message "2012-02-19 11:51:34 [error] Can't create HTTP response output file projects/milkyway.cs.rpi.edu_milkyway/milkyway_separation_1.02_windows_x86_64__opencl_amd_ati.exe"

Do I have to reinstall BOINC?

Right now I'm suspecting that people aren't getting work because it seems that clients < 7 don't report having OpenCL and I updated the scheduler to check for the new stuff.

What combination and version of Windows os, catalyst driver and BOINC manager have you tested the new application on?
It's not the application, it's the project scheduler

Hmm... ok. What combination and version of Windows os, catalyst driver and BOINC manager have you tested the separation applications 1.00 against? I want to know caus I'm not getting any WUs. I gues that you have tested against some combination of OS & drivers or are you just make an update and hope for the best? ;)

Tomorrow we might not be able to reach here at all if this is correct.

We will be transitioning to having the VCC provide dns on Wednesday, August 3rd at 8am due to technical problems.

If you absolutely must get to specific machines tomorrow morning, please look up their numeric ip addresses now and write them down to cover any gaps in service.

And also on Monday according the 'Scheduled Downtime '

Just wondering if the CPU application use the same floating-point format as the GPU application?

Or is the CPU calculation done by using Extended_precision and the GPU calculation is done by using Double_precision_floating-point_format?

No. The credits are only relevant for people for whom positions on a virtual scoreboard is more important than the work being done by this project.

Interesting with people that believes that their opinion also
is the absolute truth regarding 'how' thing's are ;)

GPU = 2 X 5870
CPU = Q6600
BOINC = 6.10.60
Let BOINC use 75% of the CPU

BOX 2

OS = Vista64
Driver = Catalyst 11.6
GPU = 6970 (unlocked 6950)
CPU = i7 920
