AMD has released Catalyst 9.7 for Vista/Win7 32 and 64 bit systems. XP and other OS versions should follow later.

Initial testing shows that it works on my HD4870 running Win7 64. As usual, recreate the three .dll files.

Hopefully 9.7 will help those who are still having problems with previous versions.

EDIT: Unfortunately, I'm now seeing some new GPU recovery faults. :( I'll tinker with it for a bit but will roll back if they keep occurring.

Couldn't get it stable so had to pull back to 9.5. It's a shame since this version is supposed to be WHQL certified for Win7 and seems to run fine outside of MW crunching. Perhaps when the upcoming application update is made the bright minds around here can check these compatibility issues.

I get VPU events for all 9.x versions, which is why I'm running 8.12.
Cheers,

I just tried 9.7 and if I looked at the screen wrong or it went to screensaver it had a driver crash.

I let it run for a few hours with screensaver and energy saver set to never and the screen just shut off and when I went to look at the manager again the driver crashed once again.

9.7 I cannot get ot even run at all get computation errors with the renamed .dll present.

9.6 on WIndows 7 crashes at the screensaver or when coming back from a period of absence.

9.5 or less do not recosnise my 4770.

The Catalyst 9.7 drivers are the best driver I have tested so fare and are
the only driver that I have ben able to use without getting GPU recovery faults.

I have now run MW for 2 days without any problem at all.
I am using Vista 64 Basic with the latest updates installed and have
a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 m-board with an i7 920 and 2 4870 cards
in cross fire.

Catalyst 9.8 is now available over on the Guru3D.com enthusiast site. At the moment they have not been posted on the ATI support site, which I find strange.

I just got the MW ATI app running yesterday using these Catalyst 9.8 drivers on my 3870 using Vista Ultimate X64.

It is now working great, using app_info CMDLINE variable "f20 n2".

You don't even have to have MW running the GPU apps for this behavior. I've been fighting this since 9.5 with the monitor going into power saving mode and/or extended periods away from the computer. Once I actually saw a message saying the ati driver crashed and used recovery mode to come back. 99.9% of the time it's a hard boot. This is happening to me in Vista 32/64 and Win 7 32/64 bit system.

[Edit] Card is an ATI HD 3870.... Have not run or tried the GPU version because I've had enough problems already that I don't need to add more on top of it.

Hi,

CCC 9.8 is available on http://www.guru3d.com/.
Its not perfect, but crashes happen about ten times less than with 9.7

No VPUs, no crashes, it just runs and runs.
But then I'm using XP, which is a bit more stable than those other alpha os's.
Cheers,

Looks like we have nearly the same system going. I'm sticking with 9.6 for the time being however. Not having any issues as long as I don't disconnect my monitor and reconnect it. That causes all running GPU WUs to crash and get the dreaded "compute error".
