Question, how to lower the HD 4770 memory speed without using CCC, since CCC causes problems?

That's easy.
Lower it -> close CCC -> crunch

Close Boinc, start Riva Tuner, lower it, hit apply and Save, and you're done!

I have installed my 4770 XFX card under windows 7 x86 version
with catalyst 9.9 and use boinc 6.6.36 and have no problems with catalyst
Ofcourse when you want to change anything you need to stop boinc first.
But to be honest i can open catalyst and view everything while running MW without problems the only thing what is failing is atitool but that seems to be related to win7.
Also you need to make the 6 files in system32 map to make it work, but until now runs likes the wind :D

Can anyone five me a definative answer as to the 4770 usability in MW?
I seem to be reading "it should work", but I haven't read any actual "works for me".
XP-32 or Vista-64 .... or, for that matter, W7-64

I did not try hard here at MW but I did at Collatz and could not make my 4770 work at all!!! I tried six ways from Sunday to make it work! I even got someone who got one working over there to give me directions, still wouldn't work!! I have 2 CUDA cards working just fine and in the end ended up trading my 4770 to my son for another CUDA card! Apparently the 4770 is only sorta compatible! I was using a machine with 32bit W7.

Not so easy. If CCC is installed at all I get video resets, even if it is removeed from startup and the CCC process is killed in task manager. I'll try RivaTuner and see how that goes.

Beyond, if you haven't already, bump up to the 9.9 drivers. For me they've been near bullet proof, a marked improvement from all of my previous 9.x drivers.

Thanks for the feedback. I tried v9.9 in WinXP32 already and it made things worse (more video resets). Back to v9.8. Then yesterday I uninstalled everything ATI, then ran DriverSweeper, then installed v9.9 again. Tried it without CCC and then with CCC. It ran a bit better than before but still errored. Back to v9.8 with no CCC installed. Stable as long as it's used for crunching only, 1 GPU task & 4 CPU tasks. It seems a lot of us are having different experiences with these drivers. Go figure. One thing for sure is that they all need work.

Again it depends on the core version, i found the old types really run without a hitch the newer optimized core models are a pain in the behind.

I got my hands on this older model and runs immediate after installed with ofcourse the proper copy&paste of the known dll files

I have had a new model also from club3d and never got it work right and i mean not even with MW but in general it made many crashes and i had huge problems with CCC and games, so i returned it you can see with gpu-z or similar program what core model you have or how it looks new model looks like this
New model
Old model

I have been helping many people to get their Ati cards to run various projects on their machines by teamview access and i must say that most of the time the newer models keep giving problems
Its actually wiser to buy and 4850/4870 those are working almost allways and believe me they gonna be cheap soon :D
Now we know the new 58XX cards are coming

Again, for the sake of accuracy the YDFC is the higher end reference model with superior cooling, also usually more expensive. Both are current. Here's the XFX HD 4770 page:

I just received a 2nd XFX HD 4770 card today and installed it in another machine. Thought I'd try the v9.9 ATI drivers (WinXP32). They were running smoothly with Collatz but as soon as MW came back up I paused Collatz and tried some MilkyWay WUs. Couldn't even get through a single 60 second WU without a video crash. So installed v9.8 and it's been running MW fine as a dedicated cruncher since. One caveat though, can't do much else while MW is running or video crash city. With the v2.00 Collatz app the machine can actually be used for SOME other work without crashes (although it still happens). Used to be that MW was more stable than Collatz here, but since v2.00 it's the other way around. As an aside, MW v2.00 is less crashy here than previous MW versions for my HD 4770 cards at least.

Hi Group,

till yesterday I've been working with HD3850 and Milkyway_win_0.20ati_Win64
with no so much problem just about 1 erroneous result every 4 or 5 WU or much
more (factor in .xml: n1 w1.2).

this has been in a PC with:
- AMD Phenom x4 9500
- ATI driver & CCC: 9.9 (**)
- XP Pro x64 SP2 MUI Spaniard (ver 05.02.3790.0)
- 8 GB (2Gb*4) RAM DDR2
- 2 same HD 500 Gb in RAID 1.

Yesterday I purchased the GPU:
- ATI Radeon HD4770P RV770
Cal version 1.4.403, 512 Mb, 960 GFlops
TM: PowerColor
- ATI driver & CCC: 9.9 (**)
- factor in .xml: n1 w1.2 (and later w1.1)
and installed, my surprise was that there was no possible to finish one complete
WU, around 20 or 30 and something the infamous ATI windows report error and
crash of display during some seconds.

(**) please don't tell me to roll back to catalistic 9.2 because I don't know
how (what stupid), because uninstalled everything from ATI setup the 9.2 and
when installing the GPU driver, windows showing that there is no driver which
fits such adapter, no way ----> setup coming back to 9.9.

what can I do for this to work again.

PS: I've setup the HD3850 in another computer win64 sp2 that previously had an
Nvidia 9800, and is working perfectly with Milkyway_win_0.20ati_Win64, and CCC
9.2 (HD3850 device is included in such version)

Cheers all, Corsair.
