Getting messages here that MW can't open the database and failed attempts. WUs draining on the server and backlog of results waiting to be assemilated.

Welcome to the weekend....

I haven't run out of work.
But then my script from the great WU drought of earlier this year never went away, it just got its request time extended to 15mins. I generally have 12-15 Completed WUs per box every 15mins so the request is never wasted.
Cheers,

PeterV

I am not sure that Collatz is up right at the moment ... I was not able to get the site to respond a few minutes ago ... maybe a short outage to tweak the database?

OK, there is a project that can make use of idle ATI cards when MW is down (again). And yes I use it since I hate to have my ATI cards idle whilst still drawing yottajoules from the nation grid. Thanks to Collatz Conjecture and a project which is honest enough to say "This project is not for commercial purposes, nor it is related to any academic research. It was created because. That's it. Just because."

'Just because' is good enough for me ;)

I don't think i twas "just because" ...

Collatz Conjecture is a research project that uses Internet-connected computers to do research in mathematics, specifically testing the Collatz Conjecture also known as 3x+1 or HOTPO (half or triple plus one). You can participate by downloading and running a free program on your computer.

Collatz Conjecture is based in Wood Dale, Illinois, USA and continues the work of the previous 3x+1@home BOINC project which ended in 2008.

I think i twas created to continue the work of the prior project ... though I don't normally get all that excited about math projects, there are things we still need to look at there ...

But, I agree that the frosting is that it gives us two ATI using projects ... now to get a third ...

But for a credit whore, are their credits as good as MW?

Um, not quite. But reasonable I think.

On my 4870 a MW task is 50 some seconds (50-57) for 53 CS
Collatz is 17 Minutes or there about and is 500 something

But the main point is that it is good to have a backup and as such we should support it so that though MW pays better, we can keep the GPU turning and burning even if MW goes down ...

I was quoting the Collatz Conjecture Project administrator/Project developer/Project tester/Project scientist

I would say it's what he thinks that counts, not what you think.

If he says it was "just because", then it was, and is.

Paul, you are about right. On my 3850 and 4850 cards the credits from Collatz are about 50% of what I get at MW. My 4850 does 53 secs for 53 credit at MW, I'm surprised your 4870 isn't a lot faster?

The Gas Giant, are you saying that everyone who crunches for Collatz Conjecture is a 'credit whore'?

I run them as is out of the box and don't try to over-clock. Something about a fetish for accurate results ... :)

Of course there are any number of people that seem to think I am an idiot to be for quality results rather than faster results regardless of quality ... a handicap to be sure ...

Of course, if I did over-clock and push limits I could have an earnings of 38,476,068 by now ... oh, wait, I do have an earnings total of 38,476,068 ... :)

On the contrary Ice. I was implying that I'm a credit whore and will only crunch projects that give me good credit....except for Malaria Control, oh and LHC (when they have work), oh and some PrimeGrid.

I suppose I'm implying that if Collatz does not give as good credit as MW I will only crunch it on my GPU(s) if MW has no work.....

I see, thanks for qualifying. I just hate to have my ATIs idle when MW goes down.

Now if only BOINC would support the backup project concept...or even properly crunch to resource share allocation.

Yes, given the history of this project I am absolutely sure that is what is happening...

I am running 69 Secs per 53-credit MW WU, application version 0.19g and with the 8.12 driver on a stock 4870, on 32-bit Win XP.
Do I have HW or SW 'issue'?
