One of my machines is a somewhat older laptop that still does a reasonable job crunching, especially with the SSE2 optimized app. Lately though, its been reporting that it cannot run MW (even with the same app) due to a message:
Message from server: MilkyWay@Home needs 476.84 MB RAM but only 444.98 MB is available for use.

I had this problem with trying to run Cosmo, but given that's a real memory pig I'm OK with not running it. Was the RAM change on the server a conscious decision in preparation for the new app, or did something else happen?

TIA,
Marty

That looks rather odd to me. I've never seen a MilkyWay app take anywhere close to that in peak RAM usage. All of the CPU apps I've got running here are taking less than 8MB each right now. It's less than 25MB for the ATI GPU app.

I was trying to debug some of the errors I was seeing awhile back and thought memory requirements were part of the issue. WUs should now have a limit of 50MB RAM.

I just got the same kind of message about two hours ago while trying to get work for one of my machines (Mac core duo with only 512 MB RAM). It used to work just fine, but lately has had problems with some of the projects that seem to need more memory than they did in the past. Other machines with more memory work OK. Do I need to reset the project in order to get more WU's or is the CPU version for Macs not yet up to speed?

I've been gettin these messages (or similar ones) for the past 2 weeks or so. I would get a few of them before it would finally download a few WU's. But I've been getting them consistently for the past day and a half everytime I request new work. So consequently I am out of MW work.

All the newly generated WUs should only ask for 50 MB of ram. Let me kick the work generator and see if that helps anything.

That must have done the trick; at around 1AM my computer was able to get work; two hours earlier it had still gotten the error message. Thanks!
