As I was browsing through my completed but inconclusive tasks, I found this Anonymous wingman. No GPUs but have 119K RAC.

http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/results.php?hostid=119318

All his tasks that need a quorum are invalid.

I think this is a SP app build in action (again!). I was hoping that these were already banned. Unfortunately it doesn't seem so.

BR,

Remember this thread -> http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/forum_thread.php?id=1620&nowrap=true#37763 ????

That machine/user/team credits should have been taken care off too...
But then again, it's MW so i don't expect anything here.

Some random guy from the street would most likely do a better job at administrating and programming.

I also saw shenanigans on "Boinc Statisics for the World!".
On the page of total Boinc stats, if yoy scroll around you find
people with 22million points per day and two days later there is
a -22 whatever had been claimed and on top of it all if you look at
their projects half of them are off-line or have ceased to exist.
I may be wrong but it looked like an acute case of dishonesty to
me, and that in scientific endeavours...

Insults towards the admins are unnecessary.

This guy has no current RAC so he has apparently not done anything lately but again he has been sent up to Travis.

Haris-I sent yours up as well.

I'll keep watch over these two to ensure they are addressed....phone calls will be made if necessary.

Just an update on this issue.

Due to funding issues, Travis' involvement in MW has had to drop dramatically. Matt has taken over many of Travis' duties. I am trying to get a hold of Matt to have these issues addressed but communication is lacking at this moment. I am working on the issues mentioned in this thread

UPDATE: Talked to Matt---lines of communication are now firmly established. Due to Boinc software issues (confirmed by a discussion w/ Eric Korpela), they cannot be deleted but they will be zero'ed out for credit (as will their teams).

Didn't lose a credit yet and is still doing work.

Many have over 400k RAC. Do you mean one that looks suspicious?

UPDATE:I've been extremely ill for a couple days and just came back to work today....pushing the issue again now. If you have other examples post a link here please.

Sorry guys---I made you a promise and I've failed on that. I've emailed AND PM'ed Matt

I will confirm when each one has been zero'ed.

Sadly this is nothing unusual here. There have been other 'will happend' that that never seams to actually happend, like "MilkyWay@home screensaver coming soon" that was posted in June. I just wonder what the Milkyway stafs defenition 'Soon' is ;)

I am sceptical because not only did he get 400,000 from milky way he actually got 3,406,890 in one day on all projects
it has taken me 17 months with a computer running permanemtly to get to just under half of this.
so he must have a machine well over 1000 times faster or over 1000 computers to get to this figure

It can/has been done without cheating using good gpus. KevinT has over 1 billion credits, with the next two over 900 million. The top rac for MW is 4.2 million.

Simplex0---in the past there have been some issues with getting some project additions added, however recently there has been a change in Staff and that needs to be acknowledged.

Due to a lack in funding, Travis' role has greatly decreased to almost nothing. Matt has come on board as well as a couple other people who have posted lately.

I am now taking on a much more involved role than just Forum Mod and I'm in the learning process as well as I am not a coder. We're working together to get some tasks done but you have my personal word that I am/we are working on it.

Between all my projects, this is about a week of credit for me (the 3.4 Mil. amount), and I am not one of the real top crunchers... why do you think this guy is cheating, exactly?

-Dave
(and as you can see, my RAC here is over 400K)

He was (is) only crunching cpu tasks, no gpu tasks. Each of his tasks before were finished in 160 secs average. It would have been understandable if he was crunching on a fast gpu but he was not. All tasks that needed a quorum were invalid. That 119k RAC was done on single host, a 2.33ghz dual xeon 3065 without a gpu. Its not even overclocked. Have you seen a cpu almost as fast as a 4890 (just a speculation since i dont have a 4890 and a 5830 is faster than that)?

Checking that host now, he's averaging about 15-16k secs per task. Thats a lot of difference compared to 160 secs, dont you think? Seems his RAC going back down now, 20k at the moment and might settle at 3-3.5k.

Why does someone with an Anonymous profile cheat? Or was it just a glitch on his hardware or software?

Hello guys -

Sorry for the delay, I've been having email system problems, and on top of that, I am trying to finish up a research paper which just won't die. :(

I am fairly new to forum work, but I will work on punishing the cheaters - hopefully I'll have it figured out tomorrow. :)

Cheers,
Matthew

The offenders have been notified, and have 24 hours to respond, or they will be banned and their credit zeroed.

I apologize for the delays - Milkyway@home is currently leaving a state of transition. I hope that you can bear with me while I learn the ropes.

Thanks for keeping us informed - feel free to PM me with any concerns that you have.

Cheers,
Matthew
