I have done a couple of GPU comptations on a GTX295 which ran nicely, only to find out that they were logged as computation error afterwards.

I do seem to have the output file absent error that I found mentioned in several threads, but have yet to find a solution that works to get the results accepted.

resetting or detaching/reattaching did not affect the behaviour ...

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Check the error text being returned with your work units. Some of them say "Maximum disk usage exceeded". This suggests that you need to allow more disk space to be used by BOINC.

There are a lot of them that are apparently crashing on GPU API errors. No idea what that's all about.

Thanks for these hints, Brian and magyarficko.

I do indeed get messages saying, e.g.,

Aborting task ... exceeded disk limit: 19.05MB > 14.31MB

which I must have overlooked so far only noting the file absent messages at the end.

However, my preferences are set way above that limit - the disk tab shows 1.4 GB "free, available to BOINC", there are several GB unused system memory, so I don't see, how those 19MB should/could cause a problem ...

I just raised those limits even higher - same behaviour :(

And maybe more directly one more question: where is this 14.31MB limit set?

The preferences for disk and memory have settings for
- max GB HD space for BOINC
- min GB to leave free on disk
- max % of HD space BOINC is allowed to use

I have further raised those limits - and the others on that pref tab to

20GB max
leave 0.1GB
99.9% max
60s
75% swap

90% memory
90%

As mentioned earlier, I have several GB (disk space as well as memory) left as seen by df and top. Swap space is not used.

Nontheless I get these messages of a couple MB not being available ...

I have similar problems with other GPU-based projects, too (CPU tasks work fine). Might there be some more basic problem that I encounter?

I would like to put these GPUs to use, but for now all I achieve is hot air - literally.

Between site settings and Boinc, sometimes the wrong one is checked and overrides the setting you want.
Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected?
If it makes sense, DON'T do it.
