ok - here is my dilemma - I was just offered this video card for a song - so I thought why not - and bought it. First thing I did was get all the updated drivers. I have been trying for two days off and on to get it to work with either Collatz or Milkyway with ABSOLUTELY no luck getting either one of them to run - milkyway won't even acknowledge that it exists while Collatz gives me a server error.
Even tried the optimized apps route, upgrading the chipset, etc, etc, etc.
ANY ideas about what I am doing wrong and how to put this card to work??

I run a Sapphire ATI HD3850 512MB graphics card on this dual Xeon server, under XP Pro 32 bit and it crunches Milkyway fine.

I also have one and have to run an old driver to get it to work. (10.3) Also ensure BOINC sees the card in the messages tab when you first start up BOINC, then ensure you have "Use GPU while computer in use" ticked in preferences.

Hi,
yes there are some ideas what to do:
- please make your PC visible, without that we only can assume what happens.
- is this your primary video-card? To be more exact: is a monitor or dummy-plug attached?
- did you check the messages in the BM. Right after starting the gpu's are checked and a message like ATI GPU 0: ATI Radeon HD3800 -series ... is displayed.
If this message is not present, try to attach a monitor and restart Boinc.

Please leave a message when you checked this. If the card has no hw-error you should get it to work.

Figure it out thanks to The Gas Giant - had to uninstall EVERYTHING and go back to the older drivers - works great now - thanks for the help!

On Milkyway, after about 6 - 8 weeks the RAC from that GPU should settle down at about 31K. Mine does.

My Sapphire 3850-512 works fine with all driver versions I tested it with. 9.3, 10.2, 10.4, 10.6 and the latest 10.9.

Now OC'ed 890 core, 2 wus done at 900-905 secs. Probably 40k RAC. Can reach 900 core but have to increase voltage from stock 1.214v to 1.254v. Temps @ 900 is 95c so I settled on 890 @ 88c. 2 tasks takes about 886-891 secs @ 900 core.
