It seems my MW@Home as gone crazy. It's showing to run a total of 92 tasks simultaneously (!) on my 2 HD5870 GPUs, which makes for a total of 116 running BOINC tasks with my 24 CPU-Tasks on WCG. Crazy.. how can I fix this? I already tried re-setting the project to no avail.

Win7 Ult x64, Cat. 10.10, Dual HD5870, BOINC 6.10.58, running the optimized ATI_0.23_x64 client.

Are you running IE9 Beta? If you are set it to "dont use gpu" - its clashes like crazy with various things, especially the MW/WCG combination, with exactly those symptoms. Its a known Beta issue and MS advise setting to no gpu use for now in IE9 options/config.

If not .... back to the drawing board ....

Your GPUs are not being recognised by BOINC and the MilkyWay GPU application is behaving in a similar manner as it used to do when BOINC did not include GPU capability.

In other words, the GPU application is running as though it is a CPU application. As the setting is to use 0.05 CPUs per instance this means that 20 instances are able to run on an available CPU core. Although "running" on the CPU, only 6 are actually being processed on the GPUs at one time (3 per GPU, in accordance with your app_info.xml settings), the rest are waiting.

As your computer has 24 cores this means that up to 144 MilkyWay tasks can be "running" concurrently.

This may be related to the Catalyst 10.10 driver version that you have installed. It obviously is acceptable to the MilkyWay GPU application but is not being recognised by BOINC for some reason. There are 2 Catalyst 10.10 versions, one basic version and a AMD Catalyst Accelerated Parallel Processing (APP) Technology Edition. Whichever version you have you may need the other version or you may wish to try an earlier Catalyst driver.

I see Zydor has replied with another possibility that may be causing BOINC not to recognise your GPUs.

please excuse the off topic observation, but 27C? my goodness, and that with 1200mem clk.

no fan, so assuming liquid cooled? ek? what are you using?

I was happy with <60C for my top gpu and that w/500mem clk. 27C?

IE9? Hell no.. I never use IE, and certainly installed no IE9 beta (unless WIn7 did that autoamtically). Thanks for the suggestion though :)

@kashi: I am using the standard Cat. 10.10 I think. Will search for that extended one and try again, thanks.

@Jack: I've got a custom waterchiller built specifically for this rig. Basically I can choose the water temperature I want to run at. This screenshot was taken with a water temperature of about 20C (EK FC blocks are awesome) :)

Since you asked, here:s a pic of that rig:

Edit: Maybe I should try the latest BOINC Beta client? See if that will recognize everything properly?

Thanks :)
Sorry for the long delay, I was on the road at lot lately. Anyway, I was able to fix the issues with MilkyWay. What I did was

1) Install latest 10.11 Catalyst with APP
2) Upgrade to BOINC 6.12.8

Not sure which of these did it, but it looks like it's working now, running 1 MW WU per GPU :) Thanks for your input guys!
