I have seen the opposite. I have 3 GPU's in one box and 2 GPU's in 2 other boxes. I have seen NO gains in either SLI or CF. I have actually seen the opposite as it seems to take more overhead for the SLI/CF bridge. I can actually allot some CPU cores to CPU projects without penalty. Many have also experienced driver issues with some WU's in some projects. You can run however you want but SLI/CF isn't a magic tool for increased credit because FPS is meaningless in Boinc.

If you haven't connected a monitor or a "dummy plug" to each GPU, then Crossfire is the only way to enable all the GPUs (edit: on ATI/AMD cards). Other than that, BOINC couldn't care less about CF. But it can only use enabled GPUs, so CF is the way to go for many of us.

Here's an example that does use CF:

It does use CF/SLI but there is no benefit from it. This was never the topic only if it benefits from it. SLI/CF by nature use a lot of overhead from the GPU's and CPU. This is a reason why it does not scale 100% among other factors. Even if it used only a few percentage of each GPU, that's less time spend crunching a WU. I even disabled SLI on the 295 and saw small gains. Simple logic really.
Dummy plugs are cheap and easy to make. In XP, I don't even need them, only with Vista and Win 7.
If you want to run SLI/CF because it sounds cool, by all means do. Anything crunching helps.

Admittedly, I failed to guess which reference you were comparing CF/SLI to. But I don't think that really warrants the insinuation that any decision to team GPUs is based solely on perceived 'coolness'.

You may be surprised.

Is sli/crossfire a detriment to crunching?
NO negliable
Is it a much more elegant solution for enabling GPU's than "dummy plugs"
YES
Has using our crossfire bridges kept Brickhead and I from amassing over a billion credits?
NOPE

Just because you have 595959595959595959595.9 credits doesn't mean you know everything. And your " Nuff said" kinda says other things.
Negligible? That can be proven one way or the other. From my experience, it takes away from the credit in the long run. Elegant doesn't make a credit either.
Nuff said because you said so. No?
Congrats on your billions though, obviously that elevates you to GOD status.

I'm not the one with the "billions and nuff said", and you took the time to post. Maybe take your own advice and I may follow suit.
Seriously?

I like cool GPUs, the cooler the better
No sense getting all hot over a simple disagreement

Guys:

Cool down . It is not a big issue.

I am going to open a new thread to ask everybody if crossfire or Sli means more crunching

Well I say an HD5870, cheap, about $220 and a good all around card from the amd/ati brand. 1600 shaders up to 3000 mem, stock 850 core, 900 tops and a good stable temp. ihmo
