Hello all,

I know that cncguru has 4x6970 running. The reason for such thread is to gather people both running and planning to buy such system.

I currently have 3x6970 with one slot gap between each, 25C ambient temp, at %100 fan speed.

The max temp on the hottest VRM is 72C and it is way hotter than the way 5870 works on 3 Way with slot gap between each.

I also couldn't find a proper review where 4x6970 is analyzed.

So my question is that is such temperature is normal and would it be possible to shift to 4x6970 where temps are kept below 80C using reference card under the 25C ambient temp?

Happy crunching.

Well, I had to put shims between the cards to allow better airflow and it made a world of difference!
But I am still over what you are shooting for as my temps are running 75-85 and the only way I have gotten them lower is by cold air injection, lol.
I have been leaving the window open for the winter air to flow and that has been working very well. (75-85 has caused no problems whatsoever) But it's beginning to get warmer and last summer when I started on this crunching voyage I had only 2 very much weaker systems so the AC worked but now???? No chance against 7 crunching crazies so I am installing triple the AC that I would normally need to make it thru this coming summer!
I thought of watercooling everything but I dont like the blocks I have (EK) as well as I should and am in the process of reverse engineering them and making some improvements to both form and functionality!(don't worry EK ,I will patent my own)
(spell that....mine are going to not only work better, but also look way better than all those flat boring blocks out there!)
Tie them all together with custom bent titanium tubing and distribution manifold and we should have something to get excited about!
I am, after all, the "cncguru" and I am just getting started!

Mine sit mostly between 72 and 80°C, clocked somewhat lower than cncguru's (930MHz) and with fans spinning at 70%. Room temp is between 22 and 25°C, and not much hotter than that at the cards' intakes, thanks to some good thinking when Coolermaster designed the HAF-X.

I too had to use spacers to keep a reasonable gap between the cards, mine are rubber grommets that came off some vibration-isolating HDD screws.

My biggest gripe with liquid cooling is radiators capable of moving up to 1.34kW won't fit in any computer case I'm familiar with.

You can use a Waterchiller, they reach 3000W+ :)
I have only 1 6970, water cooled, it's difficult to get him over 50°C
Last week my DVB card burned out... now i have space for a second one... mmhhhnnn i will think over it :)

Yes, good point about the radiator!
The Mountain Mods cases could handle it but I think they look too much like a Borg cube,LOL!
And I suppose I could just buy some aluninum plate a mill a custom case but my "real" job has been taking up most of my time lately.
Eventually I will get all these projects finished and whatever I come up with I will post some pics of.
Should be interesting seeing as all but my no.1 are living without boxes!

Hmm... Tap + hose + waterblock assembly + another hose + sink? Might work, except for mineral deposits and another municipal bill to worry about :)

LMAO, I'm lovin the way you're thinkin!
How about hooking them up to a loop from my swimming pool and let them try to heat that??? Now THAT pump would keep the water moving thru the cards, LOL!
Hook up one of those floating screens and a digital HiDef projector with a watertight airmouse and away we go!!

Oh, what, is it time to go to work again already???
