First thing first, hi everyone. :)

I'm a newbie here, I've just started contributing approx a few weeks ago.

Everything was fine until yesterday when my client stopped receiving GPU tasks
:(

I'm not sure what could be the problem...I didn't find anything extraordinary in the log files.

I've tried to change the settings in the "activity" menu without success.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

ps:

My system is:

AMD Phenom 2 1090T @ 3.8Ghz
16GB memory
2x 6950 in CF
Win7 64bit /w the newest client installed

cheers

There were some issues when doing a big server upgrade last night. Matt is beavering away working through the problems. No known restart time as yet, but will be hours not days .... Project is currently offline.

Use an app_info.xml and you will be able to get some WU, use this

Are you still not getting GPU jobs? I think I fixed it and it seems to be working for me with or without app_info.xml

I am getting work but also validation inconclusive. Should I stop crunching?

That sounds normal. That's what it says before another copy becomes available to validate against.

I've gotten some on one of my 3 machines, none on the other 2, don't use an app_info file...

Chris

App_info works if standard download still doesnt. Normal downloads been nerfed since midnight. It is possible normal downloads are working again as Matt mentioned he was looking at it a couple of hours ago. Dont know if they are as I have been using an app_info - that works fine, no download limits.

well, I have downloaded the files and copied the stuff in the specified folder and now I get the following error:

06/04/2011 22:28:48 Milkyway@home Message from server: _("Your app_info.xml file doesn't have a usable version of") MilkyWay@Home N-Body Simulation.

:(

cowardly I did not make any backups of the folder prior to patching it

any ideas how to resolve this?

Try using an app_info for now until the server settles more, whilst many are ok without one, pretty well all those using one (properly setup) have experienced no hassles over time. N Body WUs are a different scenario, looks like they may have found the cause of the issue, but GPU supply via app_info seems to be fine - its worth a shot.

i'm actually already using an app_info file b/c sometimes my 5870 GPU is crunching MW@H, and other times it is crunching S@H. i run my display with the motherboard's integrated 3300 GPU, so my 5870 GPU is completely dedicated to crunching. b/c of this setup, my very simple app_info file looks like this:

<cc_config>
<options>
<ignore_ati_dev>1</ignore_ati_dev>
</options>
</cc_config>

device 0 is the integrated 3300 GPU, while device 1 is the 5870 GPU. i have to toggle between ignoring ati devices 0 and 1 depending on which project my 5870 GPU is working on, or else tasks from either project error out. regardless though, S@H has always worked fine when i ignore device 1, and MW@H has always worked fine when i ignore device 0...that is, up until ~24 hours ago. if i need to try a different app_info file to get MW@H back up and running on my GPU correctly, what does its contents need to be? keep in mind this is a Windows XP 32-bit platform.

TIA,
Eric

*EDIT* - if my app_info needs to be more complex than the one i'm already using, i have no problems working with multiple app_info files and just swapping them in and out of the BOINC data directory whenever its necessary to switch from MW@H to S@H or vice versa.

Need to establish the baseline of what you have now.

Can you post your cc_config and app_info by copy paste into a post so their contents are clearly separated? Once thats established, we can move on with what they need to contain (and eliminate what they dont need to contain)

oops i take it back - i do not have an app_info file for MW@H. i accidentally posted the cc_config above thinking it was an app_info. so you have my cc_config...what's next? where exactly do i get an app_info file for MW@H that's appropriate for a WinXP 32-bit platform?

I suggest establishing a principle first, see if you are happy it does what you need, then we put together the config and app_info(s) together to meet it.

From what I understand at present, you want the IGP as device zero running the screen, whilst you use device one (the graphics card) as the Cruncher.

The IGP will do its thing provided the screen is attatched, from that point forget about it.

So, for each Project you want to crunch put together an app_info file (if its needed), and place it in the Project Directory. That way, no messing around is needed, you just switch projects in the BOINC Client, cc_config & app_info does the rest.

The applications need pointing at device 1, which you can do inside the cc_config file. The cc_config file is there to give BOINC wide information, and resides in the BOINC Directory. In that we put the statement for BOINC to only use Device 1. Unless there is something about a particular individual project that requires an app_info, we might just get away with only having a cc_config

Which projects do you want to run on the Card - S&H and MW?

Are you clear what each file does and where its put?

Once you are, we're 90% there, and just need to make the file(s)

yes, for now i only plan on crunching MW@H and S@H with the 5870 GPU (device 1). i understand where the cc_config file goes, as i already have the one above. and i understand that the app_info file for MW@H goes in the MW@H project folder (i already have an app_info for S@H in the S@H project directory).

so in regards to making an app_info file for MW@H, it just dawned on me that i can use the link that cedricdd provided earlier in the thread and download the zipped archive. i know its actually for Windows 64-bit, but i can discard the astronomy_0.23_ATI_x64.exe and brook64.dll files, and open and edit the app_info file, replacing all instances of "astronomy_0.23_ATI_x64.exe" with "milkyway_0.23_windows_intelx86__ati13ati.exe" and all instances of "brook64.dll" with "brook32a_ati.dll"...or is this not the way to do it?
