No idea why it split in the first place, all appears to be the same.

As to combining back again, the combining software is very very stringent and the smallest thing can stop it - which is fair enough when you think of the mayhem that incorrect combining can cause.

I suspect the reason it will not combine, is there is a WU attatched to 931 which has not been completed (in theory, never mind physical reality), and clearly wont be completed by what is now a phantom PC, albeit the WU itself is now a phantom WU :)

That WU times out on 19 May. Once that happens, and is recorded as a timeout against 931, the two PCs should then combine with no issue.

The phrase "incompatible" is a catch all error/text message used for a number of criteria, and can seem wierd on the face of it at times.

:)

In fairness .... this one is not down to MW, its BOINC Software, not the Project's, that run this aspect of things.

This is more than an "oops" - something is wrong, and likely affecting others. Ok, its a 0/0 machine, but it looks like machine IDs are being created for no reason. It maybe some database issue, they have been fighting a number of problems, and they have moved the server - in the middle of all that much can happen.

However .... one machine morphing into three machines within a few hours is an admin issue to resolve.

Thats really wierd .... never heard of that happening before. Be interesting to discover what it was whenever they nail it.

Same problem different base

Sorry to bring this in, but Zydor may be able to point me to a solution?

I must say I have the same problem on Willy's BOINCStats.

I have run 4 PCs (3 x XP32bit and 1 x W2K) If I log in and go to my host list there are 10 PCs listed (never owned that many) and they are duplicated several times.

One of them is listed once, and the other thre listed 3 times each.

Willy gives no means to merge them.
Go away, I was asleep

He can't, it's a BOINC issue. He's just reading the output stats file dump from the BOINC server. Same for Free-DC.

A couple suggestions. Install a new version of BOINC in case something in your BOINC directory is corrupted. The new install might correct the problem. I'd suggest 6.12.26 as it's the best so far. If you have an irrational fear of alphas, try 6.10.60. If that doesn't work I'd try uninstalling BOINC completely and reinstall. You may have to manually delete the data directory to get rid of everything. The reason I suggest the two above possible fixes is that this does not seem to be a common problem. I haven't seen it or heard others report it except that it was said to be a problem with some versions of BAM.

Strange, this just happened to me yesterday on DNA@Home. Another computer ID was created while the original one was still working. It had a single task supposedly sent to it too, I wonder where that went, certainly not to my computer. Couldn't merge the 2 computers because of overlapping lifetime. I detached and reattached and am now using the new ID. Running Dotsch/UX in a VirtualBox using BOINC 6.10.58. Never used BAM.

The reason I mentioned this is both projects are using the new BOINC server code.

Possibly a clue. Maybe a problem in the new server code or maybe a problem with older BOINC versions since the new code is meant to support 6.12.xx which is greatly changed?

Hmm, I run 6.12.26 in Windows but went with the recommended 6.10.58 in Linux.
Will leave it for now unless it spawns again.

Quite the extended family :)

You'll be able to combine them all, if you want to, [plus any more that come out to play :)] once it all settles down and the phantom WU in each one has timed out

Just as an interesting quirk, the 2 computer IDs for DNA@Home are currently shown separately under the one CPID:
