For Aqua Fans out there.... Peter over on the BOINC Dev Forum posted this yesterday as a result of a speculative "you still alive?" email he sent to "an" Aqua address: ================== Hi Peter! I'm Neo on the AQUA@home forum. Unfortunately, I ran a maintenance script in the wrong directory on the AQUA@home server (on Monday, I think), which then deleted a few critical BOINC config files instead of the old files it was supposed to delete. After that, pretty much everything slowly stopped working, and I didn't figure out what had happened until the next day. To avoid more problems, we've turned the server off until Boinc Admin gets back from vacation on Monday. He'd probably (hopefully) know enough of what was in those configuration files that we can start from a very old backup and make the necessary updates to those. If not, there's very small chance that we can recover the deleted files. Morals of the story: * Don't assume that there are recent backups * Scripts that delete files en masse should require the user to specify the directory or use an absolute address instead of assuming the current directory Hopefully we can recover, and hopefully people aren't too angry at us. Sorry for the inconvenience. Sincerely, Neil ================= Looks like more news Monday/Tuesday next week Regards Zy |

Apologies if this is in the wrong thread. Has anyone looked at AQUA lately? Saw that the project's average credit is 4 BILLION plus per day...how is that possible? And they have about 26K users. Just wondering. |

They put one of their Quantum computers on the job..... :) They had a problem with the latest BOINC Server Version which ended up giving out huge credits per test application (tens of millions per WU). Caused a major drama with Stats as you noted - apart from BOINCStats, where Willy's safety filter stopping unusual mega credits, caught 99% of it and stopped the major part of it going through. At present they are working on rolling back the credit records to a point in time where there was no "contamination". Will be a few days until its sorted out, and works through to Stats Sites. Regards Zy The new server version disabled their old credit system and used the new broken system (creditnew). This caused all kinds of havoc as it seems to with anyone who tries creditnew :( |
