Hi: Long-time Boinc cruncher, but brand-new @ MW. Have finished several tasks, on three different machines today, but completed tasks just disappear from "tasks" screen, although credit seems to mount-up on the account screen. I assume if GPU is not adequate, the application just won't run, is that correct? I thought I did see one completed task on my "tasks" screen, along with valid credit, but it seems to have disappeared too. Is this normal? Thanks! Pete |

Validated tasks get purged very quickly here, so it's normal to not see them unless you get lucky when you check and catch one. If the GPU is not sufficient and you dis-allow CPU processing, then yes, you won't get work, but from what I see on your systems right now, you're most likely doing CPU work, since 3 out of 4 tasks I just saw are nbody tasks, and those are CPU only tasks. Thank you! So what I'm seeing is normal, I guess. I was just trying to get a handle on credit/cpu seconds relative to other projects, but I guess that's a pretty tough thing to do. Thanks, Pete |

The only GPU he has is a ATI Radeon HD 4600 series, which is definitely not in use here since it does not support DP, so yes, he is doing CPU-only work. Also the separation tasks he has in cache are CPU tasks. @hampsteadpete: if you want your GPU to be used for crunching, you'll have to attach to a project, which does not need double precision and supports ATI cards, for example Collatz or SETI (SETI only if you know how to use optimized apps). Don't know which other projects support that cards. You could than still run Milkyway on CPU if you want to and the other project on GPU. _ ![]() |

Thanks, I'm already doing SETI, Einstein, and the climate model, so I'll do the CPU-only form of MW. Climate Prediction 112,577.04 25,415 19.69 18,740 Einstein@Home 128,755.10 33,104 22.52 751.16 35,626 MilkyWay@home 426.12 88,872 0.07 266.26 21,469 QMC@Home 51,290.30 8,481 8.97 RALPH@Home 2,596.00 1,273 0.45 Rosetta@Home 79,996.87 29,537 13.99 228.96 36,122 SETI@Home 178,890.06 89,384 31.29 157,107 Perhaps I should ask, what's the downside of just doing the CPU tasks? Also, where do you find that little roll-up of all your projects? Thanks, Pete |

Thanks, I'm already doing SETI, Einstein, and the climate model, so I'll do the CPU-only form of MW. Yeah, but it does not look like you are using the GPU on any of the projects. I looked thru your tasks on the projects, on which you are active ATM, i.e. have some RAC, and on SETI you are running the stock apps, which do not support ATI GPUs and on Einstein I could not find any GPU tasks as well. Rosetta and Climateprediction have no GPU apps, IIRC. So if you like to try using your GPU on SETI for example, have a look at this thread, I'm pretty sure that will not only give you a nice speed up on CPU but also you'll be able to use your GPU. ![]() |

Thanks, but all that's far too confusing for me. Think I'll just stop running this app and continue as I have been with the others. Thanks for your help! Pete |

Wanted to thank you for that link. I did, indeed, install that client, and will try SETI with it. I've been doing this since '99, but never really got into all of the different special things you can do to speed things up. Thanks again! ![]() |

Well, than watch how your RAC at SETI grows. And if any questions arise, just ask in that thread over there. ![]() |
