Hello,

I faced a problem with drivers younger than 11.3.

I am running M@W on crossfired two 5850 at stock. When I upgraded the driver from 11.3 to a younger driver I notice sporadic validation errors (about 140 WU/day) for wu crunched on the same 5850. It is always device 1. It is not the graphic card, because I switched both and the issue happened again on device 1. So it is independent form the gpu. It is also independent from the board. The issue is seen on both, ASUS P5Q Pro and P5Q-E (P45).

I tested driver 11.5, 11.7 and 11.8. CPU is an Q9550 overclocked to 3.4 GHz without higher voltage. OS is Win 7. It is independent to the BOINC-client, too.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Nowi

Apart from 11.3, any newer catalyst driver gave me BSOD at some point. Therefore, i do not suggest you to update your driver unless it is necessary for an application upgrade. I do not think it's related to OC since cpu usage appears to be same for newer drivers.

When it comes to AMD, i don't play and crunch on the same machine. Stability and performance have always been substitutes in CCC:)

I agree. I installed 11.3 and have not moved from it, and stability and crunching have been OK
Go away, I was asleep

I am still using 11.2 as that has been the most stable version for me.

Thanks for your answers! I can stay at 11.3, but sometimes I like to play and I´m looking forward to TES: Skyrim on 11.11.11 and I think I must have to update the driver for playing.

I have also sent a technical question to AMD. Maybe their will be an answer. Let it be...

I too have been facing the BSOD with 11.4+ for the ATI catalyst driver. There is definitely some bug that needs to be addressed. Either by ATI or Milkyway. The latest driver 11.8 does well for longer time, but then it causes the driver to hang

Running Win 7 64bit 2x ati xfx 5970 in crossfire. > this computer is the one having issues: http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/show_host_detail.php?hostid=194804

I keep on coming back hoping the problem is fixed but it is not yet... until then Miklyway does not get my GPU's computing for it. :(

Hurrah with the 11.9 Catalyst drivers no crashes or hangs! This is impeccable timing. For the first time in half a year I am able to crunch on my machine for more than 5 hours and not have it crash. Its going on 15 hours straight and no crashes... will continue to crunch/test this new driver version. Hopefully it continues with its stability. :)

Congratulations! 11.9 shows no improvements for me.

I have solved the problem for me. The goal was to build a dummy plug for my second graphic card. Then I disabled crossfire and installed 11.10 preview driver. After that all WU were calculated fine without validation errors on device 1. Hope it will help others.
