I spent the extra money to upgrade to a 6950, even though it was more than I needed for the video editing I do expressly because I wanted to be able to run MW. The project gives me 12 tasks at a time, I understand that is a project limit. Problem is, after those tasks are finished, there is no automatic update to report them and get new ones. I complained about this before and some kind fellow sent me the following as a cc_config.xml file:

<cc_config>
<options>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
<report_results_immediately>1</report_results_immediately>
</options>
</cc_config>

I placed it in the BOINC folder in "Program files," and it seemed to work for a while. My system would finish one task, and immediately go out and get another. Since MW went offline, it no longer seems to work. I finish the 12 tasks and in never updates, even with MOO (the other ati task I run) suspended. I have the priority set to 300, no other ati task running.

How do you get the darn thing to update? I really can't see what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks,

Pete

Hi:

What version of BOINC are you using? mine is 6.12.34 and it works fine, it downloads one WU automatically when the other is finished. The list has always 12 tasks. No special setup made.

Are the "update" and "reset project" buttons working as expected?

Goodness, I'm running the same version (x64), and sometimes it works like that, sometimes not. I have MOO set for no new tasks, and it only has two left, so I'll see what happens tonight when I let it run again. This morning, 12 MW tasks were 100%, and so were 10 MOO tasks. Net was running fine 'cause CPU tasks were updating fine. Update button cleared both MOO and MW. If I can get MW to work like yours all the time, I'll stop running MOO, I just don't want the thing to idle all night just running CPU tasks.

Update button works fine, I never tried "reset project," I guess 'cause I don't know what it does.

Thanks for your reply.

Reset wipes the project files so when it contacts again it will download all current files. It also sets the projects debts to zero.
Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected?
If it makes sense, DON'T do it.

Thank you! I think the project is working fine for me. I ran MW alone all night and it kept chugging without any problems. I'm still getting used to having this gpu, and I think it's just a question of letting the BOINC manager balance the whole thing out.

Thanks for the responses!

Hi Pete, the cc_config.xml has to be in the base BOINC DATA directory, not the program directory. The DATA directory has the subfolders named 'notices, projects, slots and symbols'. Then restart BOINC. I would also recommend BOINC 6.12.34 (which you're using). Versions later than that so far have some serious problems.

Thank you so much! That seems to have fixed my little "problem." I guess it's just something about my setup that's weird. The other night I had just MW running on gpu, with other projects running on cpu. It finished the 12 MW tasks & sat there all night without reporting. Boy that's frustrating! I could have done with a cheaper gpu, but I went with DP specifically to run MW. Oh well, been in the computer business since '69, I should know better than to let them frustrate me.

You're welcome. MW goes down a lot. I would suggest a backup project such as Collatz which you can set at a project priority of 0. Then it will DL 1 Collatz WU/core at a time until MW becomes available again.
