I'm getting 2x5970s and was wondering whether a single core AMD Sempron can handle 2x5970s crunching Milkyway, Collatz or Moo wrapper. I don't want to be held back by this CPU. So awaiting your suggestions.

I won't run any work units on the Sempron btw...

The general consensus is to have a CPU core feed each GPU, so your single core Sempron might incur a deficit handling the data requests from your dual 5970's.

Cheers, Keith

The cpu power should not be the problem but the number of WUs you get since that number is actually based on your number of cpu cores.
Said that, a number of people see high cpu use while waiting for the gpu to return results which can go as high as 1 core per gpu.

If you are dropping that much on new video cards, get a new CPU. You can get a decent dual core for $60 or a decent quad core for $100 on newegg.
