I'm getting 2x5970s and was wondering whether a single core AMD Sempron can handle 2x5970s crunching Milkyway, Collatz or Moo wrapper. I don't want to be held back by this CPU. So awaiting your suggestions. I won't run any work units on the Sempron btw... |

The general consensus is to have a CPU core feed each GPU, so your single core Sempron might incur a deficit handling the data requests from your dual 5970's. Cheers, Keith |

The cpu power should not be the problem but the number of WUs you get since that number is actually based on your number of cpu cores. Said that, a number of people see high cpu use while waiting for the gpu to return results which can go as high as 1 core per gpu. |

If you are dropping that much on new video cards, get a new CPU. You can get a decent dual core for $60 or a decent quad core for $100 on newegg. |
