Hello everyone. I have a ?.can someone tell me when I have a task that says ready to report, can it be reported now or does it report automatically by the deadline date? If it can be reported sooner how can I do this?

Thanks from a newbie

Assuming your network access is on, it'll periodically report them to get new tasks, or you can go ahead and select milkyway@home in your projects list and say "Update" - That will go on and report any completed.

If you just leave it alone the completed units will get reported the next time your pc needs more workunits. It does it at the same time to save Server connection time. If half a million of us all click 'update' at the same time the Server would not have enough connections and none of us would get thru, so Boinc is designed to optimize the connection process by doing several things at once. That being said ALOT of people click the 'update' button! There is also a small switch you can add that will do it all automatically as soon as the unit is completed, but automatic on its own is best.

Using 7.0.25 and it is getting WU's, but after self reporting a completed WU, when I try to do the "Update" to clean out reported WU's from my task list I get this in the events log.

4/22/2012 12:04:38 PM | Milkyway@Home | update requested by user
4/22/2012 12:04:58 PM | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
4/22/2012 12:05:00 PM | Milkyway@Home | Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
4/22/2012 12:05:00 PM | Milkyway@Home | Reporting 2 completed tasks, not requesting new tasks
4/22/2012 12:05:11 PM | Milkyway@Home | Scheduler request completed
4/22/2012 12:05:22 PM | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.
4/22/2012 12:05:55 PM | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
4/22/2012 12:05:56 PM | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

But the WU's do eventually dissapear with in a few minutes.

Project Servers go down for any number of reasons and often they are very short so as to cause minimal conflicts. The above messages are perfectly normal. If you just leave Boinc alone though it will get new workunits when it needs them AND return your completed ones at the same time, that is the 'normal' way it is designed to work.
