Just purchased a 7950 and am looking to add an app_info file. If someone has one could you please post and explain briefly how to integrate it. Thanks! |

This one works well for me: <app_info> <app> <name>milkyway</name> </app> <file_info> <name>milkyway_separation_1.02_windows_x86_64__opencl_amd_ati.exe</name> <executable/> </file_info> <app_version> <app_name>milkyway</app_name> <version_num>102</version_num> <flops>1.0e11</flops> <avg_ncpus>0.05</avg_ncpus> <max_ncpus>1</max_ncpus> <plan_class>ati14ati</plan_class> <coproc> <type>ATI</type> <count>0.5</count> </coproc> <cmdline>--gpu-target-frequency 10 --gpu-disable-checkpointing</cmdline> <file_ref> <file_name>milkyway_separation_1.02_windows_x86_64__opencl_amd_ati.exe</file_name> <main_program/> </file_ref> </app_version> </app_info> Set MW to NNT and have no WUs in Boinc when you do this. Copy it into a file called app_info.xml and save it in notepad, NOT MSWord or a word processing program. Unhide your files/folders and save it to C:Program Data/Boinc/Projects/MilkyWay folder. Restart Boinc and set MW to allow new tasks. When Boinc starts you should see in the Event Log, found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform. Then you should be good to go. If you have any questions, just ask. |

Thanks for the info. It's working great and crunching away! Out of curiosity what makes an app_info file so desirable? I started with 1 WU/min and now with the file I'm doing 2 Wu's/2 mins. |

Thanks for the info. It's working great and crunching away! An app_info file allows you to specify how you want you system to run a certain project and work units, to get the most out of your machine within criteria you can set. You are doing a bit better than 2 WUs in 2 min. Each separation unit requires several seconds of CPU time at the end of each unit. During that time the GPU is running the other WU exclusively. Those extra several seconds per WU is your gain from running 2 WUs at a time. |

Thanks for the info. It's working great and crunching away! App-Info and cc_config files let you fine tune the crunching for your gpu as opposed to a generic setup that works for most gpu's. This can put borderline systems in deep trouble, but for most people just increases the contribution they make to the project. Now that you are using an app_info file keep an eye on the dust and resulting heat! Some people actually use the compressed air in a can to blow out the dust quarterly! Fans can get so clogged with dust they actually stop running, this can damage a system severely! |

Thanks for the info. It's working great and crunching away! Your right on some single projects it makes not really big sense. I calculated a few 1000 points more on a 7950 but...it gives over 300k so some 1000 are not important (for me) ^^ DSKAG Austria Research Team: http://www.research.dskag.at ![]() |

Ah- great info thanks. I did not consider the CPU time between WU's as a place to increase efficiency. As I watch the WU's crunch I do see a different between no app_info and app_info file. Excellent point too about the heat and dust. I always make sure to keep an eye on those! Thanks for all the help everyone in getting this set up. ~Jack |

swiftmallard - thanks for this.. First correct app-info.xml file for Me :) My numbers - radeon 7850 OC version 975Mhz/4800Mhz 1 task -- 10min -- 30 000/day 2 tasks -- 11min -- 55 000/day -- slightly laggy 3 tasks -- 16min -- 56 700/day -- heavily laggy 4 tasks -- 22min -- 55 000/day -- heavily laggy Br p. |
