Does anyone know if BOINC or other volunteer computing platforms will be able to run on the new consoles coming out later this year from Sony and Microsoft? Seems they would be a good way to add some decently capable GPU compute resources to MW@home...

Not sure if those consoles will be engineered in a way to run at full load for sustained periods, but thought to ask. I know the PS3 had a "folding@home" app that added over 100 million compute hours to that program, would be great if the same could be offered through either or both of the new platforms, especially since the new hardware will be even more powerful than the current generation.

Sony disabled the ability to go back and forth, from crunching to playing games, and that caused alot of people to stop crunching. Unless the box maker makes a boot disk just from crunching I am guessing it may not happen.

There is a huge difference between the last generation of consoles and the upcoming generation. Since the new consoles are utilizing PC architectures, you could theoretically run BOINC on the new consoles and it would be able to run in the background while gaming quite easily if such a program is made. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of getting these consoles running BOINC projects; I am more than certain that this is going to be done. BOINC devs just need to release a version of BOINC for the new consoles.
