I wanted to try a HD7770, but I got this error back:
Message from server: Catalyst driver version is not OK for CAL application with this GPU

I'm using the latest Cat 13.8 Beta2 (Win7/x64), and I'm running the same Catalyst on another machine (2x7950) without any issues.
What's the problem ?

I don't think the 7770 is dual precision is it? That is required here and lots of cards do not have that. Yes the 79?? series does but I do not think the 77?? series does. Meaning that card won't work here, but will work just fine at lots of other places.

I think it has DP capability and I have run MW there in the past.

All of the 7xxx series has DP this time around, just different levels.

The message is weird because the server is trying to send the CAL app to a video card that does not support CAL, only OpenCL.

My 7790 does MW, maybe the lower ones don't?

I go on what Wikipedia says:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_AMD_graphics_processing_units#Southern_Islands_.28HD_7xxx.29_Series

It's kinda a lottery with drivers though, it generally takes me a lot of effort to find something that works.

I'm using 13.5B2 these are the newest ones that I have tried that don't blue screen all the time.

Is this on your Server? I didn't think AMD made drivers for Server's that you could crunch with? I have a WHS and have always put it on a non pci-e mb because of that, I know Nvidia makes drivers for Servers but I didn't know AMD did too.

Yeah, it's on my server, I just installed the catalyst drivers for Windows 7 and I'm good to go.

It's plan Windows Sever 2008 R2, not WHS though.

I am running a Sapphire HD 7970 Vapor X with a Catalyst 14.4/Windows 8.1 64 bit. and keep receiving the message:
Message from server: Catalyst driver version is not OK for CAL application with this GPU
It is a double precision, so what's up with the message. It still works and turns in about 300,000 credits a day. Anyone have any suggestions?

The biggest difference between you and one of the people that is returning valid units is that they are running this:
<core_client_version>7.2.42</core_client_version>
and you are running this:
<core_client_version>7.0.64</core_client_version>

My suggestion would be to upgrade your Boinc to the latest release version, or the 7.3.xx series if you share your pc and have different users logging in.
