I do like the new longer WU's
But I am not familiar with the math used to calculate.
I just received 18 units at an Avg. completion rate of 6hr. each, that is fine, but due in one day... Now I am looking for a way to do 118 hrs work in 24, but can't get the Delorean started. ~smiles~

Ummmmmm, Errrrrrr, from looking at your Computer you received those Wu's on the 15'th of July so you didn't just receive them. Yes, their Due in 1 day now but when you received them you had 5 day's at least to do them.

You should have tried Starting the Delorean 5 Days ago and maybe there would have been enough gas in it to finish the Wu Trip ... ;)

Hmmm I assure you they were not there.
I keep a very close eye on such. So instead of being insulting, How about some answers why they would not of displayed. I have had this happen before with this project.
Sincerely,
Heidi-Ann~

I'm not being insulting, I'm just Stating the Facts as I see them, the Wu's show they were sent to you on the 15'th of July. If you say they weren't sent to you on the 15'th of July then fine the Servers wrong & your right.

I can't really tell you why they wouldn't have shown up until all of a sudden 1 day before they were due. It shouldn't happen that way but if you say it did then just abort them if you can't run them in time, it's no big deal really. They'll get re-sent once you abort them and the send them back to the Server by Manually Updating the Project thru the BOINC Manager ... :)

Hmmm...

Well, I think the skepticism here is due to the fact that the way the various procedures for having work assigned and sent to your host don't correspond to the events you're describing and the data we can see.

First off, unless there is a scheduler malfunction the project will never just assign work to your host out of the blue. It always needs to get a scheduler request for work before any action is taken. This is how the classic 'ghost' tasks come about. The request for work comes in, the scheduler assigns it, but the reply never makes it back to your host so it ends up not knowing anything about it.

The problem here with the events as you described it, is there is no way for your host to recover from this unless the project has auto-resending of ghost (lost) tasks enabled. AFAIK, this is disabled here on MW. IOW's you would never see ghosts in BOINC Manager.

However, even if resends were enabled, the data shown on the host summary doesn't indicate this is what happened. The reason is when a lost task is resent, the sent date is adjusted to the time of the scheduler's reply to the request for the resend, but the deadline remains at what it was when the task was originally assigned. IOW's, the deadline is not extended because the task is resent.

We can also rule out that the downloads of the tasks was delayed, since they they would appear on the Tasks tab of the Manager, even if they were not completed yet.

So there seems to be a paradoxical mystery going on here as to the exact sequence of events. It might be possible to determine more by looking over the daemon logfiles in an editor. These are normally are more comprehensive since they survive over restarts, whereas the Manager on displays what's been logged since the last restart.

I had to take down one of my rigs for some maintenance (northbridge fan got the screaming meamies). The box I brought on line as a replacement hadn't connected to the server since the quick fix. It received a 20 pack of the 3 minute WU's which are fast turning into 6 hour specials. Lucky for me it is a dual core 2180 running at 3.4 ghz or there would be some issue with completing the 20 pack by the 25th of July. This may be related to Heidi's flux. The milkdud flux may also share the blame. It is obviously a capacitor issue up and down.

Note to Heidi: Don't confuse humor with insults. While there is too little of the former and plenty of the latter, the MW team prefers humor always.

LOL...

Yep, I hear ya!!

Why does it always seem to be when a project is experimenting with new things and it would be really nice to have your gear run smoothly to make things easier to get a handle on, that's when a rash hardware failures and other weird things start happening on your end? ;-)

I hate when that happens! :-D
