I have a task that Boinc Manager says has completed 100% and has no time remaining, yet it is still running and has been like this for several hours. It also is reported by BM as running on 6 CPUs although I can see from gkrellm that it is only running in one. Other tasks for other projects are being prevented from running. Should I just abort this Milkyway job?

Try pausing and unpausing BOINC first and see what happens to the task.

It says it's waiting to run. Other jobs are now running.

OK, well other jobs have run, and it's now running again (still only in one CPU, even though BM thinks it's 6).

So do I just abort it?

If you abort it the unit just goes back into the queue for someone else to crunch, so do what you want to do. Each unit has an expiration date, if you get close to passing that date then yes I would abort it. If you think the unit has been running too long then yes abort it, MW units always run long after the 100% point, with each one running for varying time periods in the 'clean up' process. At most projects there is a penalty for aborting units, but one or two now and then is not a concern.

I see you too are running the n-body units, some people have alot of problems with them.
