I'm getting ready to purchase a r9 280x gpu card for the mw@home project. Can I combine it with my A10 apu to increase performance or should I use the r9 280x gpu card by itself?

Also, will I need to make a config file for using the r9 280x card or will the boinc manager recognize it without me doing anything?

NO you can NOT combine them to work on the same workunit. You will probably need a config file, but I do not have one.

I now realize that that trying to combine the AMD R9 280X GPU card with the A105800K APU will not work on the same work unit and that it will just be a separate GPU work unit and that's fine......if I can get my system to recognize both GPU's. And if I can I can still increase the amount of credits that system will get with double the GPU's.

What you are looking for is units that say "intel_gpu" to run units on the apu, I'm not sure any project has "amd_gpu" units like the ones you want to run.
