On my R9 290, the WUs run smoothly all the way through. But on my RX 560, they seem to pause now and again. What looks like it should take 4.5 minutes takes 9.5 minutes.

Running 1 WU at a time, or multiple?

Pause only at the end? or random/in the middle?

New problem or it's always been that way?

Which OS? Driver version?

Only got the card 2 days ago, and it's been like that for the whole time.

Windows 10 Home, freshly installed 2 days ago with all updates and latest Radeon driver. All hardware is brand spanking new. Windows hasn't been activated, but should that matter?

I checked it's not overheating, and it's running at 55C. It's in a well ventilated case with five 120mm case fans!

The only thing I can think of that may be missing are the Virtualbox extensions. I had to install these to make another project work on the good machine. The offending machine I just installed the latest boinc from the webpage which includes virtualbox, but no mention of extensions. But I don't think Milkyway needs these?

Both machines are running Asteroids on their CPUs. The good machine has an old 4 core i5 3570K. The offending machine has a brand new i5 8600K. So the machine that's playing up has a less powerful GPU with a CPU that has more cores, each core with more power than the good machine, so I can't see that limiting anything. The WUs are also not showing much in the way of CPU usage, as I'd expect with a faster CPU and slower GPU. When they pause, the main timer ticks on, but not the CPU timer, and the % complete sticks for a minute.

I'll have to look at it tomorrow to see if the GPU usage falls off when it sticks, by looking at the MSI Afterburner software. I neglected to setup remote access for it and it's not where I can easily connect a monitor just now.

Stop the Asteroids cpu units for the length of one MW workunit and see if the MW units stop stuttering, if so you found the problem.

For some reason it's stopped doing it! The last 24 hours of tasks (one every 5 minutes) have been almost identical times. There are no more taking up to 9 minutes. Oh well, I guess that's good news, although I'll never figure out what was wrong. I've changed nothing at this end, so perhaps the earlier 4-bundle WUs were buggy?

What else is the pc doing that could be causing slowdowns is another option.

It's only running Boinc. Milkyway on the RX 560 GPU, and Asteroids on the six core i5.

Again it's stopped doing it after being running for a while. Very odd.

This is spam, you have posted the exact same message in multiple threads, it's your drivers that are the problem, MW isn't recognizing that they are loaded!!

Why would Einstein recognise his drivers and not Milkyway? Don't they both use the same OpenCL? Neither needs anything fancy like Virtualbox?

I have no clue but if you look at my AMD pc you can see the driver version listed while on his it is not. One idea could be multiple people using the same pc and MW was by the 2nd user while Einstein was the first user, gpu's don't work for the 2nd and successive workers that way in Windows.

Do you mean where yours says "(Cypress/Hemlock)"? Look at mine, they just say "AMD Radeon R9 200 Series (4096MB) OpenCL: 2.0" - no driver version, but they work fine. Similar to his "AMD Radeon (TM) R9 380 Series (4096MB) OpenCL: 2.0", so I doubt that's the problem.

What do you mean by "2nd user"? Are you referring to a WU being run by more than one person to check it's valid? If so I can't see why that doesn't work with GPUs, both users are doing precisely the same work, and they never fail on my GPU.
