I have 16 work units pending and with no credit. Am i going to lose credit for doing these work units. also .895 cpu and 1 amd gpu. why does a gpu need help from the cpu?

No, you will only "loose credit" if the unit cannot be validated. Once validated you and the person that was also assigned to the unit will both get credit.

Without going into a computer science lesson, that's just how computers work. A GPU talks to it's CPU. How much depends on the application.

Because something has to be in charge and the cpu is ALWAYS in charge of a pc, some apps use more cpu than others but they all use some. Some of the usage difference is because programmers don't hop from project to project to write their code and frankly some aren't as good as others are, ALSO some math problems lend themselves to depending less on the cpu than others do. For instance Rosetta has cpu tasks and has repeatedly tried to make gpu tasks but the math they use just doesn't work well when ported to the way a gpu works, meaning it would use 99% of the cpu core anyway and not be faster due to cpu cache sizes etc etc.
